SUBJECT: Fleet/Key Configuration Issue Using Cat ET Version 2002B

PROBLEM:

There is an issue with the Fleet/Key Configuration feature for Machine Security System (MSS). When a user selects "Append" while programming the ECM, a list of keys will appear on the screen. The list that appears on the screen shows the keys that the user wishes to program (append) into the ECM. However, some of the keys on the append list may already be programmed into the ECM. If a key is already programmed into the ECM, any subsequent attempt to program that key into the ECM will fail. The result will be that none of the keys on the append list will be successfully programmed into the ECM.

SOLUTION:

To avoid this issue, use the Security Management feature to identify the duplicate key(s). In the Fleet/Key Configuration feature, deselect the duplicate key(s) and program the ECM. See the example below.

Example:

The machine used in this example currently has two keys programmed into the ECM. We want to append the key list with additional keys.

Illustration 1. Security Management Screen: Two keys are currently programmed into the MSS ECM.

Below is the new list of keys we want to append (add) to the key list that is currently programmed into the ECM.

Illustration 2. Fleet/Key Configuration Screen: Notice that key "M1" exists in both the ECM database (Illustration 1) and the new configuration file to be appended (Illustration 2).

To remove the duplicate key (M1) from the append file, remove the check from the checkbox that is located near the duplicate key (see Illustration 3). This check must be removed before pressing the "Program ECM" button.

Final Resolution

This issue will be resolved in the next release of Cat ET (2002B SP1).
