Usage:
The 9N3139 Rebuild Kit can be used during reconditioning of the water pump for the engines above. The following parts are in the rebuild kit: 9L7493 Shaft Assembly, 9L7612 Seat, 9L7613 Cup and a 9L8283 Seal Assembly. Also in the rebuild kit are a 4N659 Gasket, 9N137 Gasket and a 9L8392 Gasket. Use the correct new gasket, according to the type of water pump housing, when the water pump is installed on the engine.
The tools in the new 5P7361 Tool Group and some existing tools are needed to disassemble and assemble the water pump, and to use in the installation of the new parts from the rebuild kit. Make reference to the tool chart on page 2, for the tools in the 5P7361 Tool Group and the additional tools that are needed.
Disassembly Of The Water Pump
1 Put 5P7356 Spacer (1) on the end of the shaft for the water pump as shown. Fasten 5F7465 Puller (2) to pulley (3) with 1F5842 Bolts (4) and 9N869 Washers. Fasten the pulley in a vise and tighten the screw on puller (2) to remove the pulley from the pump shaft. NOTE: There must be a minimum of 1.5" (38.1) clearance under the impeller when the pulley is fastened in the vise.
2 Use 5P7354 Pin (5) and a hydraulic press with 4 tons (36 kN) minimum of force to remove the water pump shaft.
Put a suitable guard around pin (5). |
3 Use a hammer and a punch to remove the seal assembly from the pump housing. Remove the seat and cup from the impeller.
NOTE: During reconditioning of a water pump, always install a new shaft assembly, seal assembly and cup and seat.
Assembly Of The Water Pump
1 Use the hydraulic press and 5P7347 Spacer (1) to install the new 9L7493 Shaft Assembly (2) in the pump housing. Use the hydraulic press and 5P7348 Spacer (3) to install the new 9L8283 Seal Assembly (4) in the pump housing.
2 Use the hydraulic press and the correct plate (5), as follows, to install pulley (6) on the shaft of the water pump.
3 Install the 9L7613 Cup (7) and 9L7612 Seat (8) in impeller (9). Use 5P7355 Plate (10) to push the cup and seat into position.
NOTICE |
---|
Do not use a hammer or a hydraulic press to install the cup and seat. |
4 Put the pump on the hydraulic press so pulley (6) will face down. Use the correct plate (11) under the center of pulley (6) according to the instructions that follow.
5 Put impeller (9) on the water pump shaft as shown. Put the correct spacer (12) on the pump housing [between the water pump housing and impeller (9)]. Use the correct spacer (12) according to engine model as follows: 1100 and 3100 Engine water pumps - 5P7351 Spacer; 3204 Engine water pumps - use 5P7350 Spacer; 3208 Engine water pumps - use 5P7352 Spacer.
6 Put 5P7353 Spacer (13) on impeller (9) and slowly push the impeller on the pump shaft, until spacer (12) can just be moved between the pump housing and impeller (9). Release the pressure and remove spacer (12).
NOTE: If spacer (12) cannot be removed, turn the pump over, so mounting faces (A) of the pump housing give support to the pump assembly, as near the edge of spacer (12) as possible. Use the hydraulic press and the 5P7354 Pin to push on the pulley end of the pump shaft, just enough to remove spacer (12).
7 Use the correct gasket from the rebuild kit and install the water pump on the engine. See the Service Manual for installation procedure for the water pump.
