Usage:

Caterpillar Machines Powered By 3204 (7YJ, 45V, 10X) Engines

Reference: Special Instruction, Form No SMHS7090, "Water Pump Reconditioning Using The 9N3139 Rebuild Kit and 5P7361 Tool Group."

If an engine displays symptoms of overheating, such as a damaged head gasket, warped cylinder head, cracked exhaust manifolds, etc., check the water pump impeller clearance. For optimum water pump performance, the clearance (A) between the water pump housing and the impeller should be 0.35 to 1.14 mm (.014 to .045 in). See the illustration

Location to check water pump impeller face clearance.

If the clearance is not correct, the Reference Special Instruction provides information on rebuilding the water pump and setting the correct clearance. An 8T3142 Impeller Installer can also be used to set the correct clearance.
