Description of Change: New radial seal air filter elements and conversion kits are available. The new elements are easier to service and provide improved seal reliability. The new elements are self-centering, self-aligning, self-sealing. The new elements offer the same high capacity and air filtering capabilities as the existing filters. The radial sealing area is on the outside of the open end of secondary filter element (2) and the inside of the open end of primary filter element (1). These critical sealing areas will "give" slightly, adjust, and distribute the sealing pressure evenly on adapter ring (3) as the filter is installed. One piece, molded, petroleum product resistant, urethane end caps encase the ends of the filter media and liners. See the illustration. The new elements will also continue to use "PLEATLOC" for uniform filter media spacing. The filter elements seal on the air outlet tube [adapter ring and gasket assembly (3) in the conversion kit]. No lubricants, adhesives, gaskets, or separate end covers are required.
Service intervals for the new radial seal air filter elements will remain the same as for the previous elements. The new primary elements can be used up to six times if correctly cleaned and inspected. See Guideline For Reusable Parts, SEBF8062-01, "Procedure To Inspect And Clean Air Filters." For the lowest cost per hour for air filter operation, it is recommended that Air Filter Service Indicators be installed. See Air Filter Indicator Data Sheet, PEHP9013.
The conversion kits include an adapter ring with attached gasket (3), gasket (4), decal, and installation instructions (see the Reference). New gasket (4) fits between filter housing (5) and the engine air inlet pipe. New adapter ring and gasket assembly (3) goes on the inside of the filter housing. The new decal goes on the outside of filter housing cover (6) and indicates that only radial seal filter elements should be used for servicing. After the conversion kit is installed, only the radial seal air filter elements are required for servicing.
Adaptable To: The new radial seal air cleaner elements are NOT direct replacements for the former air cleaner elements. The former air cleaner elements are NOT canceled. The new radial seal air cleaner elements can be installed ONLY AFTER a conversion kit has been installed. The Reference Special Instruction provides complete information for installing a conversion kit. The chart provides a cross reference for air cleaner assemblies, air cleaner elements, and conversion kits.
