Do Not Use RTV Sealant On Valve Cover Gaskets{1107,1120,7555}

Usage:

All 3204 Turbocharged Engines

The 7C7955 (upper) and 7C7956 (lower) Valve Cover Gaskets may leak oil. Previously, white "RTV" sealant was used during the assembly process to help retain the gaskets in the groove located in the covers. However, obtaining a uniform bead was difficult and could cause oil to leak.

It is now recommended that "RTV" sealant NOT be used as an assembly aid when installing a new gasket. Instead, apply an even layer of 1U6395 (3.8 L [1 gal U.S.]) or 1U6396 (237 ml [8 oz]) O-ring Compound, just enough to hold the gasket in the groove.

Tighten the 9L8402 Bolts to a torque of 14 ± 3 N·m (10 ± 2 lb ft) in the sequence shown in the illustration.

7C7956 (Lower) Valve Cover Gasket. Tighten bolts in sequence as shown. The 7C7955 Valve Cover Gasket is similar.
