Reference: Service Magazine; September 24, 1990; "Add Bolt Dampers To Oil Pump Mounting Bolts To Prevent Bolt Failures".
Description of Change: A new pump group that includes bolt dampers is used in the oil pump group. In the former pump group, the three 4S5882 Bolts that fasten the pump group to the engine could vibrate. The vibration could result in bolt failure. The bolt dampers in the new pump group will prevent the bolt vibration.
Adaptable To: The new 4P5638 Pump Group and three 9M4355 Dampers are direct replacements for the former 7W0054 Pump Group which is canceled.
All of the components, except the body assembly, are the same in the new and former pump groups. The 4P5638 Pump Group includes a 4P5637 Body Assembly, while the former 7W0054 Pump Group included a 7W0052 Body Assembly. The three pump mounting holes in the new body assembly are counter bored to accept the new 9M4355 Bolt Dampers.
