- Engine: C11 All C13 and C-13 All
Introduction
Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you read this information and you understand this information.
Certain combinations of connecting rods in C13 Engines are causing engine vibration. The vibration is occurring when an engine has a mixed set of weight matched rods. This Special Instruction explains the correct combinations of connecting rods that can be used together.
Note: C11 Engines do not experience vibration issues due to differences in connecting rod weight.

(S/N: KCB1-31547) C13 Truck engines were built with 160-8229 00-04 connecting rods and are ~200 g heavier than later designed 160-8229 05-06 and 223-9150 connecting rods. These engines require 10R-7989 (160-8229 00-04) connecting rods or 10R-7988 cylinder packs when three or less cylinders are being replaced. When three or more cylinders are being replaced, use 10R-2789 (160-8229 05-06 and 223-9150) connecting rods or 10R-6214 cylinder packs. Refer to Table 3.

Cylinder packs 10R-6214, 10R-6014, and 10R-9609 may be assembled with 10R-2789 (160-8229 05-06), 10R-4300 (223-9150) or 20R-0486 (Weight reduced 160-8229 00-04). Combinations of these connecting rods are acceptable due to similarities in weight.
Cylinder pack 10R-7988 is only assembled with 10R-7989 (160-8229 00-04) and is only to be used on engines with 160-8229 00-04 connecting rods. Refer to Table 4.
