These cards are used in order to transfer designs between the office and the field. The cards are also used in order to log productivity data from the field. This type of data may be transferred to the office by using either of the following methods:
- Wireless (requires appropriate infrastructure)
- AccuGrade Office v7.0 or greater software
The AccuGrade System uses a 128MB data card. The system is not limited to a card with any specific storage capacity.
Because of the rugged environments in which the compactor operates, data cards are exposed to shock, vibration, and wide temperature variations. Most data cards will work in the system. However, the data cards may not last for long periods in such a rugged environment.
Caterpillar recommends using the following data cards in the AccuGrade System:
- Apacer AP-CF12823-I (128Mb)
- Apacer AP-CF25623-I (256Mb)
- SanDisk SDCFB (I)-64-101

The data card stores the "Machine Settings" configuration file and the "Display Settings" configuration file. The AccuGrade Office software can be used for viewing and retrieving the files on a data card.
Note: AccuGrade Office version 7.0 or greater software is necessary for supporting files that are used by the AccuGrade Compaction and Measurement System.
Construction design files are formatted for use in the field. These files are transferred to the data card by using AccuGrade Office version 7.0 or higher software. These files are used in the field for computing guidance information.
NOTICE |
---|
The contents of the data card, or the data card itself, may be damaged if the machine's main disconnect is switched off while the Display is on. |
NOTICE |
---|
The contents of the data card, or the data card itself, may be damaged if the data card is removed from the card slot immediately after the card slot door is opened. When a data card is in the card slot, and the card slot door is opened, a full screen warning message on a red background is displayed. Wait until the warning message disappears before removing the data card. |
Computer Requirements
Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 2000, or Windows XP
When an office computer that is loaded with Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP detects a data card, the computer assigns the data card the next drive letter that is available.
Some computers automatically detect the data card when the data card is inserted.
Note: You must stop the data card before removing the data card from the computer. Failure to stop the data card can corrupt the data.
Desktop Computers
The computer needs a specific type of reader in order to transfer data to the data card or from the data card. The type of reader depends on the type of computer that is available. The type of reader also depends on the operating system of the computer.
Laptop Computers
A slot for a PC card (PCMCIA) is available on most laptop computers. Place the data card into an adapter for the PC card and insert the adapter into the slot.
AccuGrade Display
The data card must be inserted in the correct orientation or the data card will not function.
ReferenceRefer to Operation and Maintenance, SEBU8504, "Preparing for Operation" for instructions on inserting the data card.

Data Card Errors
The AccuGrade System performs an "integrity check" of the data card at five second intervals. If the system detects an error, the system records the error in the ProgramLog.txt file. A dialog that explains the problem appears on the screen. The data card may need to be formatted. Alternatively, replace the data card and copy the contents of the data card to a new card.
