Water Pump - Remove and Install

Usage:

416E BWC

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the left side panel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Side Panel - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Drain" for the correct procedure.

  1. Remove tube (1) .

  1. Loosen clamp (2) and disconnect hose (3) from the water pump inlet.

  1. Remove bolts (7). The bolts are different lengths. Note the positions of the different bolts.

    Note: Do not remove bolts (10) at this time.

  1. Remove water pump (6) from front cover (3) .

    Note: If necessary, tap water pump (6) with a suitable soft hammer in order to loosen water pump (6) .

  1. Remove gasket (5) .

  1. If necessary, remove cover (9) from water pump (6). Follow Steps 7.a through 7.c in order to remove cover (9) .

    1. Remove bolts (10) .

    1. Remove cover (9) .

    1. Remove gasket (8) .

NOTICE

  1. If necessary, install cover (9) to water pump (6). Follow Steps 1.a through 1.d in order to install the cover.

    1. Clean the mating surface of cover (9) .

    1. Position a new gasket (8) onto water pump (6) .

    1. Install cover (9) to water pump (6) .

    1. Install bolts (10) to cover (9). Tighten the bolts finger tight.

  1. Clean the mating surface of front cover (4) .

  1. Install Tooling (A) .

  1. Use Tooling (A) in order to align new gasket (5) to front cover (4). Install gasket (5) to the front cover.

  1. Align water pump (6) with Tooling (A). Install water pump (6) to front cover (4) .

    Note: Ensure that the gear of water pump (6) and the gear of the fuel injection pump mesh.

  1. Install bolts (7). Refer to Illustration 4. Tighten bolts (7) finger tight.

    Note: Ensure that bolts of different lengths are installed in the correct positions.

  1. Remove Tooling (A) and install remaining bolts (7) finger tight.

    Tightening sequence for the water pump

  1. Tighten bolts (7) and bolts (10) to a torque of 22 N·m (16 lb ft). Refer to Illustration 4. Tighten the bolts in the sequence that is shown in Illustration 6.

  1. Install hose (3) to the water pump inlet. Tighten clamp (2) .

  1. Install tube (1) .

  1. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change" or Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Extended Life Coolant - Change" for the proper filling procedure.

End By: Install the left side panel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Side Panel - Remove and Install".
