NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


Note: Put identification marks on all hose assemblies and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss and to prevent contaminants from entering the system.

  1. Disconnect grease hose assembly (1). Use Tooling (E) to remove retaining ring (2). Remove retaining ring (2) and plug (3).

  2. Use Tooling (A) to retain ball stud (4). Use Tooling (B) to loosen locknut (5).

    Note: Do not remove locknut (5) completely from ball stud (4).

  3. Use Tooling (C) to drive ball stud (4) out of the taper. Remove locknut (5). Separate steering link (6) from steering arm (7).

  4. Repeat Step 1 through Step 3 to loosen the ball stud at the opposite end of the steering link.

  5. Use Tooling (D) to remove steering link (6). The weight of steering link (6) is approximately 115 kg (253 lb).

NOTICE

Note: Inspect the O-ring seals. Replace the O-ring seals that are worn or damaged.

Note: Lubricate all the O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

  1. Apply Tooling (F) to the threads and on the taper of the ball studs. Use Tooling (D) to install steering link (6). The weight of steering link (6) is approximately 115 kg (253 lb).

  2. Apply Tooling (F) onto the face of locknut (5). Install locknut (5). Use Tooling (A) to retain ball stud (4). Use Tooling (B) to tighten locknut (5). Tighten locknut (5) to a torque of 2060 ± 100 N·m (1519 ± 74 lb ft).

  3. Install plug (3). Use Tooling (E) to install retaining ring (2). Install retaining ring (2). Connect grease hose assembly (1).

  4. Repeat Step 1 through Step 3 to tighten the ball stud at the opposite end of the steering link.

  5. Check the alignment of the front wheels. Refer to Steering Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Front Wheel - Align".
