Water Temperature Regulators

Usage:

Remove And Install Water Temperature Regulators

1. Drain the cooling system until the level of the coolant is below the exhaust manifolds.

2. Remove four bolts and flanges (1) and remove pipe (2).

3. Attach tooling (A) as illustrated, remove five bolts (3) and remove water temperature regulator housing (4)

4. In most cases the water regulators (5) will remain in the water regulator housing. Remove each of the water regulators and remove the water regulator housing gasket (6).

5. If necessary remove ferrule (7) and the ball and lip-type seals (8) from the regulator housing.

NOTE: Perform the following steps to install the water temperature regulators.

6. Use tool group (B), and install the water temperature regulator seals (8) in the housing. Make sure the lips of the seals are toward the inside as shown.


NOTICE

If the water temperature regulators are installed incorrectly, it will cause the engine to overheat.


7. Install water temperature regulators (5) in the housing with the springs as shown.

NOTE: If all regulators are not replaced, insure that all water regulators are working properly.

8. Put the gasket for housing (6) in position and install housing (4).

NOTE: If any of the covers or inspection plates on the water regulator housing were removed, the gaskets should be replaced.

9. Install pipe (2) and four bolts and flanges (1).

10. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See the Maintenance Manual for the correct fluid level.
