Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until the permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
The 5P-1442 Hoses that connect the brake reservoir to the master cylinder are too long. This is causing the hoses to kink.
Solution
- Remove the four 8T-4189 Bolts (2) and the 250-3344 Cowling (1) near the front glass.

- Disconnect the reservoir (3) from the mounting brackets.

(3) Reservoir |
- With the lid on the reservoir (3), tip the reservoir to the side.
- Cut the reservoir lines at the outlets of the reservoir 35 ± 5 mm (1.39 ± 0.20 inch) (A) from the base. See illustration 2.
- Pour the fluid out of the reservoir into a drip pan.
- Stretch the reservoir lines straight from the firewall (4) .
Note: Hoses should have enough extra length in order to allow the deflection of cab relative to the frame of the hood without pulling the hoses from the reservoir (3) .

- Measure both reservoir lines at 245 ± 5 mm (9.6 ± 0.2 inch) (B) from the surface of the grommet on the firewall (4) and cut off the excess hose. See illustration 3.
Note: Do not cut too short. Replace the hoses if the hoses are cut too short.
- Remove the short hose lengths from the reservoir (3) .
- Connect the hoses back to the reservoir (3) .
Note: The hoses should be routed on top of the hydraulic tank and short enough length so the hoses will not kink.

View of finished rework |
- Partially refill the reservoir (3) with fluid. Hold the reservoir (3) up for a few seconds in order to allow air bubbles to escape.
- Use the bracket and bolts to mount the reservoir (3) onto the frame.
- Tighten the hose clamps.
- Refill the reservoir (3) with fluid.
- Reassemble the cowling (1) and tighten the four bolts (2) .
A Service Letter will be forthcoming.
