Removal Procedure

1. The following procedure is for the right side of the machine.

   1. Lower the counterweight. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Counterweight Control" for the correct procedure.

2. The following procedure is for the left side of the machine.

   1. Attach a suitable lifting device to ladder assembly (2). The weight of ladder assembly (2) is approximately 27 kg (60 lb). Remove clamps (1), bolts (3), and the washers. Remove ladder assembly (2) .

3. Drain the final drive. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Final Drive Oil Change".

4. Remove the outer axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle - Remove".

5. Install Tooling (A) in order to hold sun gear (6) in place.

6. Remove three equally spaced bolts (5) that hold planetary carrier (4) to the hub and install Tooling (B). Remove remaining bolts (5) .

   Note: Tooling (B) must be installed to a depth of 25 mm (1.0 inch) in order to hold planetary carrier (4) .

7. Adjust Tooling (C) so that Dimension (X) measures 145 mm (5.7 inch) and install Tooling (C) to planetary carrier (4) .

8. Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (C). The weight of planetary carrier (4) is approximately 209 kg (461 lb).

9. Use a pry bar in order to pull planetary carrier (4) away from the hub.

10. Remove Tooling (B) .

11. Remove planetary carrier (4) .

12. Remove O-ring seals (7) and (8) .

13. Hold sun gear (6) so that sun gear (6) does not fall. Remove Tooling (A) from planetary carrier (4) .

14. Remove thrust ring (9) .

15. Remove lip seal (10) .

16. Repeat Steps 3 through 15 for the planetary carrier on the opposite side of the machine.
