Accumulated grease and oil on a machine is a fire hazard. Remove this debris with steam cleaning or high pressure water, at least every 1000 hours or each time any significant quantity of oil is spilled on a machine. |
Perform the following procedures on a daily basis.

There are two methods of securing the machine:
- Raise the machine to maximum height. Install leg supports.
- Lower the machine until the rotor is on the ground.
Note: These two methods will prevent movement of the machine while the machine is being serviced.
For maximum service life of the machine, always make a walk-around inspection of the machine. The walk-around inspection must be done before you mount the machine in order to start the engine.
Look around the machine and under the machine for items such as loose bolts, trash, oil leaks, coolant leaks, broken parts or worn parts. Inspect the condition of the attachments. Inspect the condition of the tracks and the hydraulic components. Make any necessary repairs.
Refer to the Walk-Around inspection in the Maintenance Section for detailed information on the walk-around inspection.
Check all the interlocks for the machine. The interlocks are listed below.
The engine will not crank for the following reasons:
- The grade/slope control system is turned ON.
- The conveyor system is turned ON.
The engine will crank but the engine will not start:
- The remote stop switches are ON.
The machine will not move under the following circumstances:
- Engine rpm is less than 2000 rpm with the rotor engaged.
- The door for the rotor is open.
- The parking brake is engaged.
- A fault is detected by the Caterpillar Monitoring System Control. The indicator light will flash.
The front of the machine will NOT lower under the following circumstances:
- The rear is not first lowered approximately six inches.
The rear of the machine will not lower:
- The auto stop position must be ON.
- Press the lower switch twice.
Note: There are no interlocks for raising the machine.
No steering from the tracks on the rear of the machine occurs under the following circumstances:
- The steering selector control was not in the REAR position at the time of starting the engine.
- The rotor door is open.
- A fault is detected with the Caterpillar Monitoring System Control. The fault is with the electronic steering system.
There is no engagement of the rotor under the following circumstances:
- The rotor door is open.
- Engine speed is not at the low engine speed. The low engine speed is 1100 rpm.
- The kickback ski is not set.
- A fault is detected by the Caterpillar Monitoring System Control. The indicator light will flash.
