SUBJECT: After Software Is Flashed to the Marine Power Display (MPD), the MPD May Lose Graphical Display.

PROBLEM:

The Marine Power Display (MPD) requires operating software. This software is flashed directly into the MPD through a J1939 datalink. When 213-1907 flash files or 217-8181 flash files are flashed to the MPD, the MPD screen may turn light gray (losing all the gauges) or the MPD screen may turn black. When the MPD turns gray or black, the MPD has not failed. There has merely been a drastic change in the contrast of the MPD screen. This problem may also occur while the MPD is in night mode.

SOLUTION:

Illustration 1. Marine Power Display (MPD)

  1. Alarm button
  2. Screen Display button
  3. Right-arrow button
  4. Left-arrow button

To resolve this situation, press and hold the Screen Display Button (2) for two or three seconds. This will activate the contrast adjustment.

  • If the screen is black, press and hold the Right-arrow button (3) until the screen lightens.
  • If the screen is light gray, press and hold the Left-arrow button (4) until the screen darkens.

Night Vision Screen

If the night vision screen has been affected, you will first have to activate the night vision back lighting. After the night vision back lighting has been activated, press and hold the Screen Display Button (2) for two or three seconds. This will activate the brightness control for the night screen.

  • Use the Right-arrow button (3) and the Left-arrow Button (4) to achieve a moderate or average backlight.

Press the Screen Display Button (2) momentarily (one second or less) to enter into the contrast adjustment mode.

  • If the screen is light red, press the Left-arrow Button (4) to add contrast.
  • If the screen is dark red, press the Right-arrow Button (3) to lighten contrast.
