Description of Change: New metering pump groups (steering control units) use improved seals, a new end cap, and a spacer to prevent oil leaks.
New round cross section o-ring seals replace the former square cross section seals between the sections of the gerotor assembly. The former square cross section seals could twist during the assembly of the metering pump. The o-ring seals are installed with the steering control unit facing up, to eliminate blind assembly of the o-rings.
The bolts that mount the end cap and gerotor assembly to the metering body, were changed from 12 point bolts to self-sealing 6 point Torx head bolts.
A one piece shaft seal replaced the former three piece shaft seal for low input torque steering units.
Adaptable To: The new metering pump groups are direct replacements for the former metering pump groups listed in the following chart.
Note: The former metering pump groups can be updated by installing one of the conversion kits listed in the chart.
Note: Former metering pump groups, having low input torque shaft seals, can be updated with a one piece shaft seal, replacing the former three piece arrangement.Seal kits to update former metering pump groups are listed in the chart

- Remove machine end caps (B)
- Remove gerotor outer ring (C) and square section ring (G)
- Remove spacer (E)
- Remove square section ring (G) from metering body (F)
- Install round cross section o-ring (GG) in groove of metering body (F.)

Typical converted steering control unit (AA) six point bolts (BB) Ground steel end cap (C) Gerotor outer ring (D) Gerotor star (EE) Spacer (F) Metering body (GG) New round section o-ring |
- Install round cross section o-ring (GG) in groove of spacer (EE)
- Install spacer (EE) with o-ring (GG) facing away from metering body (F)
- Install gerotor outer ring (C) with o-ring (GG) facing away from metering body (F)
Note: If, the gerotor star (D) has a full length spline you can turn the spline with the outer ring. If the star has a partial spline, turn the outer ring only.
- Install round cross section o-ring (GG) in the groove of gerotor outer ring (C)
- Install ground steel end cap (BB) with new, self sealing cap screws (AA)
- Use a six point (E10) Torx drive to dry torque all seven bolts (AA) to 14.12 ± 2.83 N·m (10.41 ± 2.09 lb ft). Then final torque to 28.25 ± 2.83 N·m (20.83 ± 2.09 lb ft) in the sequence that is numbered 1 through 7 in the magnified view of illustration 2

To determine low or standard torque, examine the seal gland bushing for grooves. Grooves identify low torque units.
Note: The new shaft seal for the former (low torque) metering pump groups, is included with the seal kit listed in the chart.
