Idler Gear - Remove and Install

Start By:
- Remove the front cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Front Cover - Remove".
- Rotate the crankshaft until the timing marks on the crankshaft gear, the camshaft gear, and the idler gear are aligned.

NOTICE The valve timing and the fuel injection pump timing will be lost if the crankshaft is rotated when the idler gear is removed.
- Remove bolts (3) from idler gear (1).
- Remove idler gear (1), retaining plate (2) and the idler gear hub. If necessary, remove the bushings from idler gear (1).

- Position the idler gear hub and install bolts (3) in order to locate idler gear hub (5). Tighten the bolts in order to seat the idler gear hub.
Note: The Lubrication Hole (X) of the idler gear hub must be positioned at the top of the idler gear hub.
- Use a suitable press and Tooling (A) to install bushings (4) on each side of idler gear (1).
- Remove bolts (3) from the idler gear hub. Install idler gear (1) with the timing marks toward the front on idler gear hub (5).
Note: Ensure that the timing marks on the crankshaft gear, the camshaft gear, and the idler gear are aligned.
