Introduction
Auxiliary oil filter groups are used for 3500 Spark Ignited Standard Engines. Installation of the auxiliary oil filter groups on these engines will increase engine oil capacity and help extend engine oil life.
This Special Instruction provides the necessary information for installation of the oil filter groups on these engines.
Refer to the specific engine Operation And Maintenance Manual for the oil change interval and the engine crankcase refill capacity.
Refer to the topic Necessary Parts for the parts that will be needed to perform the installation.

Necessary Parts
NOTE: The following chart lists the parts needed for installation of the auxiliary oil filter groups. These parts are all included in the filter groups listed above. It is not necessary to order the individual parts.
Installation
Typical Auxiliary Oil Filter Group: (1) Oil Filter Assembly. (2) 6F-7699 Bushing. (3) 61-6717 Elbow. (4) 8P-9872 Hose Assembly. (5) 01-6412 Connector. (6) 9P-8241 Hose Assembly. (7) 01-6412 Connector. (8) 1P-7625 Elbow. (9) 3K-0360 Seal. (A) Location for plug removal from engine oil cooler elbow. (B) Location for plug removal from elbow on oil pan. (C) Check valve orifice assembly (part of filter assembly).
NOTE: To install the auxiliary oil filter group it is necessary to have the engine shutdown.
1. Install 6F-7699 Bushing (2) into the inlet opening at the top of oil filter assembly (1). Install 61-6717 Elbow (3) into bushing (2).
2. Remove 9S-4185 Plug and 3K-0360 Seal from the oil cooler elbow at location (A). Install 1P-7625 Elbow (8) and 3K-0360 Seal (9) into the hole where the plug and seal were removed.
3. Connect 8P-9872 Hose Assembly (4) to elbow (3) and elbow (8).
4. Install 01-6412 Connector (5) into the connection (check valve orifice assembly) at location (C).
5. Remove 3M-7045 Plug from the elbow on the oil pan at location (B). Install 01-6412 Connector (7) into the hole in the elbow on the oil pan where the plug was just removed.
6. Connect 9P-8241 Hose Assembly (6) to connectors (5) and (7).
7. Verify the engine oil is at the correct level.
8. Fill the auxiliary oil filter with clean engine oil. Refer to the chart in Necessary Parts for auxiliary oil filter capacity.
9. Start the engine.
10. Loosen the plug in the top of the auxiliary oil filter to bleed the excess air from the system. When oil appears at the plug, tighten the plug.
NOTE: Each auxiliary oil filter group (1) contains 4P-3631 Oil Filter Elements within the filter housing. At the time of an engine oil change the user has the option to:
- * Replace the filter elements according to the guidelines in the Operation And Maintenance Manual.
- * Discontinue using 4P-3631 Filter Elements.
There is 4P-3630 O-ring Seal installed between the filter body and the filter cover assembly. Inspect this seal carefully each time the oil filter elements are changed. Install a new O-ring seal whenever the original O-ring seal shows any indication of wear or damage.
If replacement bolts are needed to retain the cover on the oil filter assembly, the following bolts, nuts, and washers can be used as replacements.
