Introduction
The 7E5253 Governor Control Assembly [Woodward® 2301A (Standby)] has been released as a replacement for the 4W5392 Governor Control Assembly [Woodward® 2301 (Standby)] for the engines given above. Use the information given in this publication to adapt the new governor control when installing the 7E5253 Governor Control Assembly as a replacement for a 4W5392 Governor Control Assembly.
Do not perform any procedure, outlined in this publication, or order any parts until you read and understand the information contained within.
Reference: Service Manual.
4W5392 (2301) Governor Control Assembly
4W5392 Wiring Diagram.
- * (1) Two second acceleration time per 50 MFD. Leave open if not used.
- * (2) Approximately 1% speed change per 20 ohms. 500 ohms maximum remote speed setting potentiometer.
- * (3) Lubrication oil idle speed switch maintains low idle speed until oil pressure closes switch. Another switch may be added in series for low speed control at the switch gear.
- * (2) Approximately 1% speed change per 20 ohms. 500 ohms maximum remote speed setting potentiometer.
To replace the 4W5392 Governor Control Assembly, disconnect the control wiring according to the wiring diagram shown, and make the wiring connections according to the wiring diagram given in the topic entitled 7E5253 (2301A) Governor Control Assembly.

- * (1) Ground shields at grounding lug on the chassis plate below terminal 9. Keep grounding connections under 15.0 cm (6.0") in length.
- * (2) Use a 2K potentiometer for up to 7.5% droop when using 2/3 actuator travel for 0 to 100% load. Make no connections to terminals 13 and 14 if droop is not required.
- * (3) Remove jumper between terminals 11 and 12. If speed trim potentiometer or digital reference unit is used. If speed trim potentiometer is used, a high quality 100 ohm, 10 turn potentiometer similar to Woodward® part number 1657-537 is recommended. 100 ohms will give approximately ± 5% speed adjustment.
- * (4) A solid ground connection must be made from "earth" or "ground" to the grounding lug on the chassis plate below terminal 9 to provide proper chassis grounding. Refer to local wiring codes for proper grounding methods.
- * (5)
Show/hide tableDo not use for emergency shutdown. The engine should be equipped with a separate shutdown device, to protect against overspeed which could result in personal injury, loss of life, and/or property damage.
- * (6) Remove jumper wire if minimum fuel switch is used.
- * (2) Use a 2K potentiometer for up to 7.5% droop when using 2/3 actuator travel for 0 to 100% load. Make no connections to terminals 13 and 14 if droop is not required.
After all the wiring is connected, make sure the connections are tightened.
