Usage:
Introduction
The 4C5818 Collar and Retainer Group is used in conjunction with a stud tensioner tool group when installing crankshaft main bearing caps. Refer to the Service Manual for the crankshaft main bearing stud tensioning procedure.
Do not perform any procedure, outlined in this publication, or order any parts until you have read and understand the information contained within.
Reference: Service Manual.
Using the 4C5818 Collar and Retainer Group
The chart that follows gives the component parts that are in the 4C5818 Collar and Retainer Group.
NOTE: The Service Manual indicates to use the 8T0892 Threaded Collar Assembly. The 8T0892 Threaded Collar Assembly has been canceled and replaced by the 4C5817 Threaded Collar. DO NOT use the 8T0892 Threaded Collar Assembly. Use ONLY the 4C5817 Threaded Collar with the 4C5816 Collar Retainer.
2. Install 4C5816 Collar Retainer (3) to retain threaded collar (1) in tensioner cylinder (2).
3. Use bolts (4) that are supplied with the 4C5818 Collar and Retainer Group to fasten retainer (3) to cylinder (2). Do this for each cylinder that is to be installed.
NOTE: Collar retainer (3) secures threaded collar (1) in tensioner cylinder (2) during installation on the main bearing stud. Collar retainer (3) must be installed at all times during the tensioning procedure. The hole at location (A) in collar retainer (3) provides socket wrench access to the 1/2" square hole in threaded collar (1).
4. The illustration that follows shows two 8T0895 Tensioner Cylinders installed on main bearing studs, with the 4C5817 Threaded Collars and 4C5816 Collar Retainers installed.
1. 4C5817 Threaded Collars. 2. 8T0895 Tensioner Cylinders. 3. 4C5816 Collar Retainers. B. Pedestal.
NOTE: The 4C5816 Collar Retainer (3) must be installed as shown anytime a tensioner cylinder is installed on a main bearing stud.
