Heavy Duty Jackstand Arrangement{0630} Caterpillar

Heavy Duty Jackstand Arrangement{0630}

Usage:

Introduction

A new heavy duty jackstand arrangement is available in component groups. These jackstands are used in pairs for vertical lift and support of large trucks, tractors, loaders, and other vehicles.

Do not perform any procedure, outlined in this publication, or order any parts until you read and understand the information contained within.

Application

Order component groups from the Jackstand Parts chart below to makeup the jackstand arrangements. Quantities shown are for the suggested basic arrangements for track type tractors.

The suggested basic arrangement includes two base assemblies, each with a short and long extension. These extensions provide a range of 584 to 1524 mm (23 to 60"). Select short or long extensions for additional base assemblies according to expected applications.

One 4C5809 Pump Group can supply power to two jackstands at the same time. Quick disconnect couplings and a pump dolly allow easy movement between pairs of jackstands with the same pump. Connecting a single jackstand hose at the pump outlet coupling will double the jacking speed.

Operating Instructions

1. Read and observe all precautions concerning assembly, maintenance, and operation of the hydraulic system. Instructions are provided with the hydraulic pump and with the cylinder used in this unit.

Jackstands shown above are in the shortest and tallest configuration, connected in parallel to the 4C5809 Pump Group.

Each jackstand can lift 72186 kg (159000 lb) with the pump pressure at 68900 kPa (10000 psi). Power two jackstands with one 4C5809 Pump Group (10) and the 4C5807 Tee Connection (9) to lift one side or end of very heavy vehicles. This minimizes local stresses on the vehicle and provides best stability when the load is on the stands.

Control the rate of lift for each jack using needle valves (25) in the Tee connection group.

A single jackstand can be connected to the pump when load and stability requirements are lower. (The jack lifting speed will double.)

* Be sure hoses and connections are undamaged and properly tightened before applying hydraulic pressure.* If necessary, use spacers (7) under the load cap (29) to extend the auxiliary extension a MAXIMUM of 254 mm (10") before starting to lift the load.* Lift the load no higher than necessary. Excessively high lifts usually result in greater side loading and reduced stability.* Control the lift rates with needle valve (25) when using parallel connection.* Place jackstands only at recommended points.* Never attempt to lift a load with stand transport wheels extended.
* When the load is lifted to desired height, secure it with the two double pins (4) through column and extension.* NEVER leave the load on the stands without the locking pins installed.
* Lower the load SLOWLY. Sudden release of hydraulic pressure will activate the fluid velocity valves, locking oil in the jack cylinders. Apply pressure to the cylinders to unlock the valves.* Lower the jackstand extensions fully after use. A special valve in the pump aids retraction of unloaded jack cylinders.
* Before moving the jackstand to a new location, the long extension should be fully retracted to avoid the possibility of tipping.* Place one foot on the base plate. Insert the tongue handle in toggle socket (30) and lift to force the wheel down. The roller will go over center to the LOCK DOWN position. Holes in the wheel tubes are for optional locking pins.* PULL the stand to the new location and release the roller toggles to take weight off the transport wheels. The spring-loaded casters will support the stand when moving it into final position under the vehicle.

NOTICE

NEVER leave the transport wheels extended while stand is positioned for lifting the vehicle. The wheels are not designed to be loaded and damage to them will result.

Assembly of Heavy Duty Jackstands

1. Remove coupling and handle from holes (A) and (B) in 4C5808 Cylinder. Temporarily plug hole (A) in cylinder with 3/8 NPT pipe plug. Save coupling for use in pump outlet port later.

2. Remove one Allen head bolt from load cap (C) and install lifting eye.

3. Using the lifting eye, lower the cylinder into the 1U9980 Base Assembly, aligning holes (A) and (B) with openings (D) and (E). Remove the lifting eye and re-install bolt into cap.

4. Install a 4F0186 Nipple (14) or other common 3/8 NPT nipple 76 mm (3") long into cylinder hole (B) through opening (E) in the base assembly. Fasten the cylinder in the base assembly. This correctly positions cylinder in base. A cap on the pipe nipple is optional for appearance only.

5. Install tongue (F) as shown. This is part of the 4C5801 Yoke and Handle Assembly (5).

6. The 4C5802 Hose Group (6) consists of the components in the following chart.

Remove the plug from cylinder port (A). Put a teflon sealer on the threads and install high pressure hexagonal 4C5898 Nipple (17) through opening (D) into cylinder port (A). Install the remaining components of the 4C5802 Hose Group.

NOTE: Install velocity valve with arrow pointing toward pump.

NOTICE

Do not overtighten connections. All connections should be snug and leak free. Excessive tightening will cause strain on threads and external fitting walls which can result in failure below the rated pressure capacity.

Apply 1 1/2 wraps of teflon tape to the threads, starting at the second thread from the end, to prevent tape pieces from entering the hydraulic system.

7. Put lifting eye in extension top plate. Lubricate lower one-half of outside surface. Install extension into base assembly and around cylinder.

NOTICE

"Cut out" relief (G) at bottom of extension must be toward cylinder hydraulic connection and retaining nipple to avoid damage to the fittings when the extension retracts.

8. Install quick-disconnect coupling (A) which was removed from the cylinder, into the hydraulic pump outlet. Install 7J8611 Elbow (13) and 8T0820 Gage (12) into pump valve block. Install breather (16) into reservoir. Fill reservoir with oil specified in pump manufacturer's literature supplied with the pump.

9. Check electrical cable plug (15), and the pump wiring to see if it is correct for your supply voltage. Refer to the topic entitled Specifications.

10. The chart below lists part numbers of the fittings in the 4C5806 Tee Connection Group.

11. Lubricate bearings and other moving surfaces at assembly, and periodically thereafter.

12. Before using jackstands, inspect and repair or replace any leaking or damaged components.
