Reconditioning of 2W8903 and/or 7W8003 Junction Box Groups{7426} Caterpillar

Reconditioning of 2W8903 and/or 7W8003 Junction Box Groups{7426}

Usage:

3208, 3304, 3306, 3406, 3408 and 3412 Family Engines in Certain Marine, Industrial or Generator Set Applications. These Engines may be either Diesel, Spark Ignited or Gaseous Fuel Powered.

Introduction

If it becomes necessary to replace the shut-off solenoid that is in an Energize to Shut-Off protection system for one of the listed engines, it is recommended that the 7C1317 Wiring Harness inside the electrical junction box also be removed.

Installation of a new wiring harness and some other additional new parts will improve the protection system.

Refer to the topic entitled Necessary Parts for the parts that will be needed to recondition the junction box. The information given in this instruction can be used to recondition either a 2W8903 or 7W8003 Junction Box.

Do not perform any procedure, outlined in this publication, or order any parts until you read and understand the information contained within.

Reference: Service Manual.

Necessary Parts

The parts needed for the junction box reconditioning procedure are given in the following chart.

Reconditioning of the Junction Box

NOTE: Identify and mark all external wiring harness connections at the junction box before starting the following procedure. This will make for easier wire identification if it becomes necessary to disconnect additional wiring.

1. Disconnect and remove the complete 7C1317 Harness Assembly (1) from inside the junction box.

2. Use a 4W2215 Insulator, 4B2047 Nuts, 4W2217 Base and a 4W2216 Spring to install a new 6T4007 Relay on the existing studs at location (A).

3. For identification purposes, mark original 6T4007 Relay (2) to indicate it as "SR1". Mark new 6T4007 Relay (3) so it will be indicated as "SR2".

4. Use 4B2047 Nuts to mount 4W8471 Relay (4) to 4P0396 Plate Assembly (5). Use one additional nut along with an existing nut, to mount the 4P0396 Plate Assembly (5), with relay, on the two existing studs in the upper area of the junction box as shown.

5. Install a new 5N5159 Jumper Strip between terminals 27 and 28.

6. Install new 4P0397 Harness Assembly (6) in the junction box. Make wiring connections according to the wiring schematics that follow.

7. From the engine wiring harness that terminates in the junction box, disconnect either wire number 027-168, or, 027-068 from terminal No. 27, if so connected.

Mark this wire to indicate it as wire number 013-168, or, 013-068. Install a 5P1475 Terminal, if required, on this wire and connect it to terminal No. 13.

8. For additional wiring information refer to the topic entitled Wiring Schematic in this publication.
