- Machine Engines:
- 3408E
- 3412E
Some 3408E Machine Engines (S/N: 99C06194-UP) and 3412E Machine Engines (S/N: 80M03514-UP) use exhaust manifolds with a new design that uses exhaust seal assemblies. The new seal ring design allows the adjacent manifold sections to expand and to contract with changes in exhaust temperatures. This reduces the risk of shearing the exhaust manifold studs. Previously, the manifolds would occasionally expand as one long, locked assembly. This increase in the overall length of the manifold assembly would often result in shearing of the studs.
The exhaust manifolds on 3408E Machine Engines (S/N: 99C1-06193) and 3412E Machine Engines (S/N: 80M1-03513) may possibly be reworked into the new design if sufficient material is available in the manifold. The wall thickness must be at least 7.0 mm (0.28 inch) in order for the manifold to be reworked into the current design. Two 100-7401 Exhaust Seal Assemblies are needed for each manifold interface. See "Rework Process".

- The wall thickness of the manifold must be at least 7.0 mm (0.28 inch) in order for the manifold to be reworked.
- Machine the outside diameter of the manifold to 78.70 mm (3.098 inch). This will allow the manifold sections to expand and to contract individually, therefore reducing the risk of the manifolds shearing the exhaust manifold studs.
- Machine the two 2.64 mm (0.1039 inch) grooves in the outside of the manifold. These grooves will allow the installation of the exhaust seal assemblies.
- Clean any carbon and/or deposits from the inside diameter of the mating exhaust manifold.
- Install two 100-7401 Exhaust Seal Assemblies on the manifold.
Note: Two 100-7401 Exhaust Seal Assemblies will be needed for each manifold interface.
