The harvester head frame may tip over when it is in the vertical position. Personal injury or death may result if this occurs. Secure the frame to the yoke with a chain or similar restraint prior to working on the harvester head. |
Note: Chains should be replaced one at a time in order to maintain the proper orientation of the chains to the feed rollers.
- Ensure that the harvester head frame is in the VERTICAL position. Fully open the feed roller arms. Secure the frame of the harvester head to the yoke with a suitable chain. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Preparation for Disassembly" for detailed instructions.
- If the chain is not broken, cut the chain. Remove the pieces of the chain from feed roller (4). The chain is held onto feed roller (4) by having a link of the chain placed into a slot on the front and back of feed roller (4) .
Note: When the first chain is broken, this chain should be replaced. The chains usually break at the end of the feed roller that faces the harvester head. When you replace a chain, change the direction of all other chains. The end of the chain that was facing the harvester head should now face away from the head.

- Insert one end of the feed roller chain into the groove on the rear side of the feed roller.
- Wrap the chain around the feed roller. Keep the chain in the channel of the rubber tire on the feed roller.
- Install the chain (1) so that the chain is at a slight angle (B). The chain should be angled toward travel direction (7) of the feed roller.
