Installation Procedure for Improved Hose Routing on Harvester Heads{5051, 5057}

Usage:

HH55 3MZ
Harvester Heads:
HH55 (PIN: 3MZ1-218)
HH65 (PIN: 4RZ1-268)

Introduction

The routing of the hoses to the feed roller motors has been improved. The hoses are now routed outside the frame of the harvester head. Routing the hoses outside the frame increases the life of the hoses by reducing wear of the hose on the frame.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.

Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.

----------------------

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Installation Procedure

Machine Preparation

  1. Refer to Service Manual module, RENR3007, "Disassembly and Assembly, HH45, HH55, HH65, and HH75 Harvester Head", "Preparation for Disassembly" in order to prepare the harvester for disassembly.

  1. Turn the battery disconnect switches to the OFF position.

  1. Remove the valve cover from the harvester head.

  1. Lay the two guards onto the valve cover and use the guards as templates to cut the slots in the valve cover. Locate the edge of left guard (4) 55 mm (2.2 inch) from corner (3). Locate the edge of right guard (5) 55 mm (2.2 inch) from corner (6) .

  1. Weld the guards to the valve cover. Clean the valve cover and paint the valve cover after the weld has cooled.

    Hose Routing

  1. Remove the two hoses that connect the main control valve to each feed roller motor. Mark the positions of the hoses on the control valve and the feed roller motors. The hoses will be replaced.

  1. Remove the hoses that connect to each drain port on the feed roller motors. Mark the positions of the hoses on the control valve and the feed roller motors. The hose to the drain port on the right feed roller motor will be replaced.

  1. Disconnect the hoses for lubrication of the pivot pins on the feed roller arms. Pull the hoses out of the head.

  1. Wrap the two hoses that connect to the feed roller arm cylinders with 161-5103 Guard . Use 0.5 m (1.6 ft) on each side.

  1. Connect the hoses for the lubrication to the feed roller arm. Use the original hoses. Route the hoses on the outside of the frame. Loosen the opposite end of the hose in order to provide proper routing.

  1. Remove the hose assembly that connects the drain port on the pressure reducing valve for the measuring arm to the tee on the manifold.

    Illustration 7g00748315

  1. Replace the hose with 156-1226 Hose As (7). The end with the 90 degree fitting connects to the pressure reducing valve.

  1. Route the existing hose from the drain port of the left feed roller motor to the drain manifold. Route the hose outside the frame.

  1. Connect 175-2634 Hose As (8) from the drain manifold to the drain port on the right feed roller motor. Route the hose outside the frame.

    Illustration 9g00748317

  1. Route four new 156-1218 Hose As (9) from the main control valve to the feed roller motors. The path of the hoses were marked in Step 7 and Step 8. Route the top two hoses from the main control valve to the feed roller motor on the left. Route the bottom two hoses on the main control valve to the right feed roller motor.

  1. Wrap the supply hose, the drain hoses, and the lubrication hose with 161-5104 Guard (10). Wrap both sides. Use 1 m (3.3 ft) on each side.

  1. Install the valve cover and test the operation of the feed rollers.
