836G Landfill Compactor and 834G Wheel Dozer Power Train Caterpillar

Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the compactor wheel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Compactor Wheel - Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.

1. Remove two bolts (1), the washers, and the nuts.

2. Remove guard (2).

3. Remove every third bolt (3) and the washer.

   Note: There are eight bolts and eight washers that must be removed.

4. Remove eight bolts (4) and the washers. Remove plate (5). Repeat this procedure for the opposite side.

5. Install Tooling (A) and suitable cribbing in order to support guard assembly (6), as shown.

6. Attach Tooling (B) to both weld nuts on front axle guard (6), as shown.

7. Attach a suitable hoist and a suitable lifting sling to Tooling (B), as shown.

8. Remove four bolts (7) and the washers.

9. Remove three bolts (8) and the washers.

10. Use Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) in order to lower front guard assembly (6). The weight of front guard assembly (6) is 60 kg (132 lb).

1. Install Tooling (A) and suitable cribbing in order to support guard assembly (6), as shown. Attach Tooling (B) to both weld nuts on front axle guard (6), as shown. Attach a suitable hoist and a suitable lifting sling to Tooling (B), as shown.

2. Use Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) in order to install front guard assembly (6). The weight of front guard assembly (6) is 60 kg (132 lb).

3. Install three bolts (8) and the washers.

4. Install four bolts (7) and the washers.

5. Install every third bolt (3) and the washers.

   Note: There are eight bolts and eight washers that must be installed.

6. Install plate (5). Install eight bolts (4) and the washers. Repeat this procedure for the opposite side.

7. Install guard (2).

8. Install two bolts (1), the washers, and the nuts.
