Axle Guards (Rear) - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the compactor wheel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Compactor Wheel - Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.

  1. Remove pin (1) from swingout ladder (2).

    Note: Refer to Steps 2 and 3 for machines with the following serial number: 7MZ.

  2. Remove cotter pin (3) and the pin.

  3. Open swingout ladder (2).

    Note: Refer to Steps 4 and 5 for machines with the following serial number: BRL.

  4. Open latch (11).

  5. Open swingout ladder (2).

  6. Attach Tooling (A) to upper rear axle guard (4), as shown. Attach a suitable hoist and lifting chains to Tooling (A), as shown.

  7. Remove eight bolts (5) and the washers.

  8. Place Tooling (B) under lower rear axle guard (6), as shown.

  9. Remove four bolts (8), the washers, and the plate. Repeat this procedure for the opposite side.

  10. Remove three bolts (7) and the washers. Repeat this procedure for the opposite side.

  11. Use Tooling (B) in order to lower the lower rear axle guard. The weight of the lower rear axle guard is 125 kg (275 lb).

  12. Remove four bolts (9), the washers, and the plate. Repeat this procedure for the opposite side.

  13. Remove every third bolt (10) and the washer.

    Note: There are eight bolts and eight washers that must be removed.

  14. Use the hoist in order to remove the upper rear axle guard. The weight of the upper rear axle guard is 68 kg (150 lb).

  1. Install Tooling (A) to upper axle guard (4), as shown.

  2. Attach a suitable hoist and lifting chains to Tooling (A), as shown.

  3. Place Tooling (B) under lower rear axle guard (6), as shown.

  4. Use the hoist, Tooling (A), and Tooling (B) in order to install the rear axle guards. The weight of the lower rear axle guard is 125 kg (275 lb). The weight of the upper rear axle guard is 68 kg (150 lb).

  5. Install three bolts (7) and the washers. Repeat this procedure for the opposite side.

  6. Install four bolts (8), the washers, and the plate. Repeat this procedure for the opposite side.

  7. Install every third bolt (10) and the washer.

    Note: There are eight bolts and eight washers that must be installed.

  8. Install four bolts (9), the washers, and the plate. Repeat this procedure for the opposite side.

  9. Install eight bolts (5) and the washers.

    Note: Refer to Steps 10 and 11 for machines with the following serial number: 7MZ.

  10. Close swingout ladder (2).

  11. Install pin (3) and the cotter pin to swingout ladder (2).

    Note: Refer to Steps 12 and 13 for machines with the following serial number: BRL.

  12. Close swingout ladder (2).

  13. Close latch (11).

  14. Install pin (1) to swingout ladder (2).

End By:

  1. Install the compactor wheel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Compactor Wheel - Install" for the machine that is being serviced.
