Quick Coupler

Usage:

Improper use of the boom and work tools could result in injury or death. The operator must be fully aware of all the functions for the joystick control and proper operating techniques.


All Work Tools Except Access Platforms

Illustrations in the following procedure show a carriage which is equipped with forks. The procedure is applicable to all work tools with the same types of mounting points.

Installation Procedure

  1. Turn handle (1) on the diverter valve to the UPPER position.

  2. Push the top of switch (2) and hold the switch.

  3. On machines that have the type A control arrangement, press and hold switch (3) until the pins for the quick coupler are disengaged. Release switches (2) and (3). On machines that have the type B control arrangement, press and hold the left side of switch (4) until the pins for the quick coupler are disengaged. Release switches (2) and (4).

  4. Lower and extend the boom so that the quick coupler can be seen from the cab. Position the quick coupler in line with the carriage.

  5. Tilt the quick coupler forward until the quick coupler tubes (5) are below the level of hooks (6).

  6. Extend the boom slowly until the quick coupler tubes contact the carriage. Raise the boom until the quick coupler tubes are engaged with the hooks.

  7. Tilt back the quick coupler until the lower part of the carriage is in contact with the quick coupler.

  8. On machines that have the type A control arrangement, press and hold switch (7) until the pins for the quick coupler are fully engaged. Release switch (7). On machines that have the type B control arrangement, press and hold the right side of switch (4) until the pins for the quick coupler are fully engaged. Release switch (4).

    ------ WARNING! ------

    An improperly installed work tool could become dislodged from the machine during operation. This could cause injury or death. Do not operate the machine until you have positive indication that the quick coupler pins are fully engaged.

  9. Check the positions of both of the quick coupler pins. Both quick coupler pins must be fully engaged. Lower the boom until the carriage is pressed against the ground. Slowly back up the machine. As the machine starts to move, check for movement between the carriage and the quick coupler. Movement indicates that the pins for the quick coupler are not properly installed. Do not operate the machine unless the pins for the quick coupler are fully engaged through the quick coupler and the carriage.

  10. Turn handle (1) on the diverter valve to the LOWER position. If equipped, install the hydraulic lines for the carriage to the diverter valve.

Removal Procedure

  1. Tilt back the quick coupler. Lower and extend the boom so that the quick coupler can be seen from the cab.

  2. If equipped, disconnect the hydraulic lines for the work tool from the diverter valve.

  3. Turn handle (1) on the diverter valve to the UPPER position.

  4. Push the top of switch (2) and hold the switch.

  5. On machines that have the type A control arrangement, press and hold switch (3) until the pins for the quick coupler are disengaged. Release switches (2) and (3). On machines that have the type B control arrangement, press and hold the left side of switch (4) until the pins for the quick coupler are disengaged. Release switches (2) and (4).

  6. Lower the boom and tilt the quick coupler forward until the carriage is on the ground. If necessary, block the carriage in order to prevent the carriage from moving when the carriage is disengaged from the quick coupler. Lower the boom until tubes (5) are disengaged from hooks (6). Retract the boom until the quick coupler is clear of the carriage.

Access Platform

Illustrations in the following procedure show a fixed access platform. The procedure is also applicable to access platforms that swivel.

  1. Turn handle (1) on the diverter valve to the UPPER position.

  2. Push the top of switch (2) and hold the switch.

  3. On machines that have the type A control arrangement, press and hold switch (3) until the pins for the quick coupler are disengaged. Release switches (2) and (3). On machines that have the type B control arrangement, press and hold the left side of switch (4) until the pins for the quick coupler are disengaged. Release switches (2) and (4).

  4. Lower and extend the boom so that the quick coupler can be seen from the cab. Position the quick coupler in line with the access platform.

  5. Tilt the quick coupler forward until the quick coupler tubes (6) are below the level of hooks (5).

  6. Extend the boom slowly until the quick coupler tubes (6) contact the access platform. Raise the boom until the quick coupler tubes are engaged with hooks (5).

  7. Tilt back the quick coupler until the lower part of the access platform is in contact with the quick coupler.

  8. On machines that have the type A control arrangement, press and hold switch (7) until the pins for the quick coupler are fully engaged. Release switch (7). On machines that have the type B control arrangement, press and hold the right side of switch (4) until the pins for the quick coupler are fully engaged. Release switch (4).

  10. Turn handle (1) on the diverter valve to the LOWER position.

  11. Stop the engine. Disconnect plug (8) from socket (9) on the machine boom. Connect plug (10) to socket (9) on the machine boom.

Removal Procedure

  1. Tilt back the quick coupler. Lower and extend the boom so that the quick coupler can be seen from the cab.

  2. Stop the engine. Disconnect plug (10) from socket (9) on the machine boom. Place plug (10) in the STOWED position that is shown in Illustration 23. Connect plug (8) to socket (9) on the machine boom.

    Note: The machine will not operate until plug (8) is installed into socket (9) on the machine boom.

  3. Turn handle (1) on the diverter valve to the UPPER position.

  5. On machines that have the type A control arrangement, press and hold switch (3) until the pins for the quick coupler are disengaged. Release switches (2) and (3).   6. Lower the boom and tilt the quick coupler forward until the access platform is on the ground. Lower the boom until tubes (6) are disengaged from hooks (5). Retract the boom until the quick coupler is clear of the access platform.
