Illustration 3 g00976119 - Retain brake piston (5). Apply air to the port for the service brake. The air should be at a pressure of
0.5 MPa (75 psi) . Piston (5) will be forced from the housing. Remove piston (5).Show/hide tableIllustration 4 g00976120 Show/hide tablePersonal injury can result from air pressure against the piston.
The piston can come out of the housing assembly with force when air pressure is applied.
To prevent possible personal injury, the piston must be retained in the housing assembly when applying air pressure.
- Remove seal (6) and seal (7) from the housing.

Note: When brake service is required, replace all friction discs, all piston seals, and all reaction springs. Inspect the reaction plates for wear. Replace the reaction plates, as needed. Refer to the Service Manual module Specifications, "Brake and Planetary" for more information on inspecting the brake components.
- Install seal (6) and seal (7) in the center housing.
Note: Coat the seals with petroleum jelly. Coat the bore with petroleum jelly before installing the brake piston.

Note: Install the piston into the center housing without twisting or binding the piston in order to prevent damage to the seals.

- Lubricate friction disc (4) and the reaction plate. Install the reaction plate and friction disc (4).
Note: Lubricate the friction disc and the reaction plate by immersion in 30W power train oil.
- Install springs (2).

Illustration 8 g00976117 - Install reaction plate (1).
Note: Test the brake pistons for leaks. Apply
700 ± 150 kPa (100 ± 20 psi) of pressure. The piston must not lose more than7 kPa (1 psi) of pressure in one minute.
