Personal injury or death can result from a fire. Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system. Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters. |

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

- Open the engine access door on the right hand side of the machine.
- Turn the valve in a counterclockwise direction. Drain the fuel into a suitable container.

- Close the valve.
- Hold the bowl (4) while you loosen the collar (3). Remove the bowl (4) and the collar (3) .

- Loosen the collar (1). Remove the element (2). Discard the element in a proper manner.
- Clean the parts. Inspect the parts for damage. Replace the damaged parts.
- Install a new element. Tighten the collar (1) .
- Install the bowl (4) and tighten the collar (3) .
- Prime the fuel system.
- Start the engine and check the fuel system for leaks.
- Close the engine access door.
