Saw Bar Cylinder Return Speed (Excavator) - Test and Adjust

Usage:

HH45 2JZ
The following procedure is used to adjust the return speed of the saw bar. The return speed of the saw bar must be set correctly to ensure that the harvester is not damaged.

Note: Only the return speed of the saw bar is adjustable. The speed of extension of the saw bar is not adjustable. The return speed setting should be high enough for efficient production. The return speed setting should not be too high or the saw bar or the saw box could be damaged.

The movement of the saw bar is controlled by the saw bar cylinder. The return speed of the saw bar is controlled by a stroke limiter screw.

  1. Start the engine. Raise the hydraulic activation control lever. Turn the engine speed dial to position "8". Turn the attachment switch to the ON position.

  1. Ensure that the saw chain is removed from the saw bar.

    Location of "Cut" Button

  1. Press and hold the "Cut" button on the left keypad.

  1. Release the "Cut" button when the saw bar has completely rotated to the OUT position.

Note: The return speed of the saw bar must be set as fast as possible without damaging the saw bar. To adjust the return speed of the saw bar, perform Steps 5 through 8.

  1. Lower the harvester head to the ground. Turn the attachment switch to the OFF position. Lower the hydraulic activation control lever. Stop the engine. Remove the valve cover from the harvester head.

    NOTICE

The speed of the functions on the harvester head must be set correctly. If the speeds are set too fast damage to the harvester head may result. Adjust the speeds of the functions according to the following procedure to prevent damage to the harvester head.

  1. Loosen the locknut on the stroke limiter screw for saw RETURN (1). Turn the adjusting screw clockwise in order to decrease the speed of the function. Turn the adjusting screw counterclockwise in order to increase the speed of the function.

  1. Start the engine. Raise the hydraulic activation control lever. Turn the engine speed dial to position "8". Turn the attachment switch to the ON position. Activate the function again in order to test the new setting of the stroke limiter screw. Tighten the locknut when the speed has been set correctly. The cycle time of the saw bar should be within 1.0 to 1.5 seconds.

Note: The speed of saw bar EXTEND is not adjustable. Only the speed of the saw bar RETURN can be adjusted.

  1. Lower the harvester head to the ground. Turn the attachment switch to the OFF position. Lower the hydraulic activation control lever. Stop the engine. Install the valve cover on the harvester head.
