Installation of the Padded Shell Kit Attachment

  1. Move the machine to a level site.

  1. Stop the compactor. Turn off the engine, and set the parking brake.

  1. Remove the existing bumper.

    Illustration 1g00666393

  1. Use mounting hardware (2) in order to install the new bumper (1) .

  1. Reconnect the blade lift cylinder (if equipped). Use the existing hardware in order to reattach the hydraulic lines for the blade cylinder. New mounting bolts (3) will be needed in order to mount the two hose clamps on the bumper.

Note: Clean all debris from the drum before you install the padded shell. Debris on the drum could cause improper loads on the anchor brackets. Improper loads on the anchor brackets could result in the padded shell kit attachment from becoming loose.

    Illustration 2g00666387

  1. Use a suitable lifting device in order to lift one half of the shell (4) directly onto the top of the compactor drum. The weight of one half of the shell is approximately 450 kg (1000 lb). The pattern on the shell should face the front of the compactor. See illustration 2 for placement. Use the shell as a template, and drill two 24 mm (0.95 inch) holes in the existing drum. Use hardware (5) in order to secure the half of the shell.

  1. Start the compactor. Carefully drive the compactor forward until the shell contacts the ground. Continue to drive forward until the shell is under the drum and the anchor brackets are accessible above the front bumper. Stop the compactor and set the parking brake.

  1. Use a suitable lifting device in order to lift the second half of the shell (4) onto the compactor. The pattern on the shell should face the front of the compactor. See illustration 2 for placement.

Note: It is not necessary to drill the mounting holes in the machine's drum when the second half of the shell is installed.

    Illustration 3g00666396

  1. Install hardware (6) in all six of the anchor brackets and tighten the bolts in a sequential pattern in order to maintain uniform gaps between the two halves of the shell. Tighten the six anchor bolts to a torque of 460 N·m (340 lb ft).

  1. Use hardware (8) in order to install scraper teeth (7). Leave a 12 mm (0.5 inch) gap between the scraper teeth and the shell.

  1. Use hardware (11) in order to install plates (9) and plates (10) in the storage location. See illustration 3 for placement.

  1. Start the compactor and drive slowly for about one minute. Stop the compactor. Turn off the engine, and set the parking brake. Tighten bolts (6) to a torque of 460 N·m (340 lb ft).

  1. Start the compactor. Drive the compactor for one to five minutes. Stop the compactor. Turn off the engine, and set the parking brake. Tighten bolts (6) to a torque of 460 N·m (340 lb ft).

  1. Start the compactor. Drive the compactor on a suitable surface in order to operate the vibratory system. Operate the vibratory system for 30 to 60 minutes. Stop the compactor. Turn off the engine, and set the parking brake. Check the torque on bolts (6). If necessary, tighten the bolts.

  1. Repeat step 14 until bolts (6) do not require tightening.

Removal of the Padded Shell Kit Attachment

  1. Start the compactor. Carefully drive the compactor forward until the center of the shell that contains mounting hardware (5) contacts the ground. The anchor brackets should still be accessible above the front bumper. Stop the compactor and set the parking brake.

  1. Remove scrapers (7) and mounting hardware (8) .

  1. Remove hardware (6) .

  1. Use a suitable lifting device in order to remove one half of the shell (4) from the compactor.

  1. Start the compactor. Carefully drive the compactor forward until the center of the remaining shell is on the top of the drum. Stop the compactor and set the parking brake.

  1. Remove mounting hardware (5) .

  1. Use a suitable lifting device in order to remove the half of the shell (4) from the compactor.

  1. Follow steps 6 through 9 of ""Installation of the Smooth Drum " ".

Installation of the Smooth Drum

  1. Move the machine to a level site.

  1. Stop the compactor. Turn off the engine, and set the parking brake.

  1. Remove the existing bumper.

    Illustration 4g00666398

  1. Install plates (9) and plates (10). The chamfered corners should face the front of the machine.

  1. Use hardware (8) in order to install scraper teeth (7). Leave a 12 mm (0.5 inch) gap between the scraper teeth and the drum surface.

  1. Install hardware (11). Hardware (11) is required for the installation of the padded shell.

  1. Store the remaining hardware and components: (4), (5) and (6). These items are required for the installation of the padded shell.

Note: Before you install the padded shell, remove the following components: (7), (8), (9) and (10) . Then follow steps 6 through 15 of ""Installation of the Padded Shell Kit Attachment" ".
