Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

  1. Drain the oil from the oil filter into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

  1. Remove padlock (3). Turn handle (1), and open cover (2). Remove bolt (6) and the washer. Remove bolt (4), the two washers, and the nut.

  1. Remove bolt (7), the washer, and bracket (8). Remove cover (5) .

  1. Remove two nuts (10) and disconnect wires (9) from sending unit (14). Remove four bolts (13), the four washers, and two half flanges (12). Disconnect hose assembly (18) from oil filter (11). Remove the O-ring seal from hose assembly (18). Remove four bolts (16), the four washers, and two half flanges (15). Disconnect hose assembly (17) from oil filter (11). Remove the O-ring seal from hose assembly (17) .

  1. Remove nut (20) and the two washers. Remove bolt (19) from clip (20) from the bottom of oil filter (11) .

  1. Remove two bolts (22) from oil filter (11) and Tooling (A). Attach a strap and a suitable lifting device to the oil filter.

  1. Remove four bolts (23) and the washers from bracket (24). Remove the oil filter.
