Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
- Remove the fuel transfer pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Transfer Pump - Remove".

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Place an identification mark on each half of the fuel transfer pump for the assembly procedure.
- Remove screw (3) and then separate each half of the fuel transfer pump.

- Diaphragm assembly (9) is rotated 90 degrees in order to remove the diaphragm assembly from link arm (7) .
- Remove diaphragm assembly (9) .
- Carefully separate the following items from the diaphragm assembly (9) .
- Stem seal (4)
- Washer (spring seat) (5)
- Spring (8)
Note: Diaphragm assembly (5) and the pull rod (6) are nonserviceable parts.
- Stem seal (4)
- Use a suitable lever in order to remove valves (2) and (11) .
Note: Some of the metal that is peened may need to be removed in order to remove valves (2) and (11) .
- Remove seat washers (1) and (10) .
- Check the components of the fuel transfer pump for wear and other damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
