Note: SERVICE DATA: TOOLING (A) WILL NOT BE IDENTIFIED IN PHOTOGRAPHS IN THE REMOVAL OR THE INSTALLATION. THIS TOOLING IS SHOWN IN ORDER TO ASSIST THE EXPERIENCED SERVICEMAN.

Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, all hose assemblies, all wires, and all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep containments from entering the system.

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Disconnect tube assembly (1).

  2. Remove tube assembly (2).

  3. Remove bolts (3).

  4. Remove fuel priming pump (4) and the gasket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Inspect the condition of the gasket. Replace the gasket, if necessary.

  2. Ensure that the rocker arm for the fuel priming pump is not under pressure.

  3. Install the gasket and fuel priming pump (4).

  4. Install bolts (3) that mount fuel priming pump (4) to the cylinder block. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  5. Install tube assembly (2).

  6. Connect tube assembly (1).

  7. Loosen the vent screw on the top of the fuel filter and operate the priming lever on the fuel transfer pump in order to remove air from the fuel system. When only fuel comes out of the vent screw, tighten the vent screw.

  8. Start the engine and check the fuel system for fuel leaks and for air leaks.
