  1. Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

    Note: This procedure is a typical example.

  2. Install Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) to the dump body. Attach an appropriate hoist.

  3. Place dump body (4) into position on the machine. The weight of the dump body is 4918 kg (10842 lb).

  4. Align the pivot points on the dump body with the pivot points on the frame. Lubricate pin assemblies (5). Install shims (C) and install the pin assemblies.

    Note: Install the shims equally. Install the shims in order to remove an excess amount of clearance between the pivot points. Install the shims between the pivot points, as shown above. Install the shims and the pin assemblies on opposite sides of the same plate.

    Note: It may be necessary to use a socket and a hammer in order to install the pin assemblies.

  5. Install two bolts (3), the washers, and the nuts.

  6. If necessary, adjust shims (D).

    Note: Use the hoist and the lifting slings at the front of the dump body. Lift the front of the dump body and install the body prop. Adjust the shims in order to allow the body to sit evenly.

  7. If necessary, adjust shims (E).

    Note: Adjust shims in order to allow a clearance of 2.5 ± .5 mm (0.098 ± 0.02 inch) between the guide plates and the chassis.

  8. Install rear lights (2).

  9. Connect the electrical connections for lights (2).

  10. Install two bolts (1), the washers, and the nuts.

  11. Remove Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) from the truck body.

  12. Use the grease fittings on the pin assemblies in order to lubricate the pivot points.

End By:

  1. Install the tailgate cylinder. See Disassembly and Assembly, "Tailgate Cylinder - Install".

  2. Install the hoist cylinders. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hoist Cylinder - Install".
