Suction Screen (Oil Pan) - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Personal injury can result from hot oil or hot components.

At operating temperature, oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns.

Remove the fill cap only when the engine is stopped, and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.


  1. Position a suitable container under the oil pan in order to contain the oil for storage or for disposal. Drain the engine oil below the level of the oil pan suction screen. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7173, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the correct procedure.

  2. Remove four bolts (1), the washers, cover (2) and the O-ring seal from the front oil pan.

  3. Remove suction screen (3) from oil screen housing (4).

  4. Remove bolt (5), the washers, screen (6) and two O-ring seals (7) from handle (8).

Installation Procedure

Note: Check all of the O-ring seals and the components of the oil pan suction screen for wear or for damage. Replace the components, if necessary.

Note: Verify that all the components of the oil pan suction screen are clean and free of foreign material prior to installation.

Note: Lubricate all of the O-ring seals with clean engine oil prior to installation.

  1. Install bolt (5), the washers, screen (6) and two O-ring seals (7) to handle (8).

  2. Install suction screen (3) to oil screen housing (4).

  3. Install cover (2) and the O-ring seal to the front oil pan with four bolts (1) and the washers.

  4. Refill the engine oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7173, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the correct procedure.
