Steering Drift

Usage:

45 1DR

  1. Verify that the tracks are properly aligned. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Track Alignment". Check the track for uneven wear. If one track is worn excessively and the other track is not worn, the machine will drift.

Note: The driving tests should be performed on a solid level surface. The operator should not turn the steering wheel at any time.

  1. Drive the machine for a distance of 6.1 m (20 ft) to 9.1 m (30 ft) (E) .

  1. Attach a plumb bob to the drawbar. Mark the location of the plumb bob on the ground (A) .

Note: The operator should not turn the steering wheel at any time.

  1. Drive the machine for a distance of 30.5 m (100 ft) (F). Mark the location of the plumb bob on the ground. The mark will be position (B) .

Note: The operator should not turn the steering wheel at any time.

  1. Drive the machine for a distance of 30.5 m (100 ft) (G). Mark the location of the plumb bob on the ground. The mark will be position (C) .

  1. Stretch a line between points (A) and (C). Measure the distance (D) from the line to the center mark (B).

  1. Calculate the drift by multiplying dimension (D) by four. The maximum allowable drift (H) is 1.2 m (4 ft) over a distance of 61 m (200 ft).

  1. Repeat this driving test in the opposite direction using the same course.

  1. Average the calculated drift from the two driving test.

If the dimension is greater than 1.2 m (4 ft) the steering system may be out of adjustment. Refer to System Operation and Testing and Adjusting, "Steering Pump Upstroke/Deadband Test".
