Water Temperature Regulator - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.

Steam can cause personal injury.

Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.

Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This will help to prevent fluid loss and this will help to keep contaminants from entering the system.

  1. Open the engine hood.

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6868 for the proper procedure. The capacity of the cooling system is 10 L (2.65 US gal).

  1. Loosen clamp (1) and remove hose assembly (2) away from the engine.

  1. Remove six bolts (3) and water temperature regulator housing (4) .

  1. Remove gasket (5) and water temperature regulator (6) from water temperature regulator housing (4) .

Installation Procedure

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the assembly procedure, the interior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

  1. Clean the water temperature regulator housing in order to prevent leaks.

  1. Install water temperature regulator (6) to water temperature regulator housing (4). Install gasket (5) to the water temperature regulator housing.

  1. Install water temperature regulator housing (4) and six bolts (3) .

  1. Install hose assembly (2) to the engine and tighten clamp (1) .

  1. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6868 for the proper procedure. The capacity of the cooling system is 10 L (2.65 US gal).
