- Align the lower master link (5) with the upper master link. Make sure that the teeth of both ends of the master link are engaged.
- Put master shoe (7) in position on the master link. Put 2P-2506 Thread Compound on the threads, the body, and the face of bolts (6) for the master link. Install the bolts that hold the master link together. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 650 ± 70 N·m (480 ± 50 lb ft). Then, tighten the bolts by an additional 120 degrees.

- Use the following procedure in order to adjust the track.
- Move the machine forward for a distance that is twice the length of the machine. Allow the machine to come to a stop without using the brakes.
Show/hide tableNOTICE Measure the distance of the track sag from a straight line. Measure the sag with the machine in the machine's present working condition. If dirt and debris are present under normal working conditions, then measure the sag with the dirt and debris in the track and the track components.

- To measure the sag in the track, stretch a cord over the grousers between the sprocket and the front idler. Measure the distance from the cord to the top of the grouser at the maximum measurement. Measure distance (A) and distance (B).
- The correct adjustment is attained when the sum of dimensions (A) and (B) equal 115 ± 10 mm (4.5 ± 0.4 inch).
- Put 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease in the track adjuster. Adjust the track until distance (C) is 72 ± 10 mm (2.8 ± .4 inch).

Show/hide tableNOTICE Do not attempt to tighten the track if dimension (C) is 142 mm (5.60 inch) or more. Consult your Caterpillar Dealer for service on the track or for instructions.
- Inspect the O-Ring seal for damage. If the seal is damaged, install a new seal. Use four bolts (1) and install cover (2) in position on the machine.
