Transmission Control

Usage:

D250E II 4PS

Illustration 1g00610505

The transmission has five forward gears, neutral and two reverse gears.

The transmission control incorporates the following three switches:-

  • Transmission hold switch (1)

  • Neutral lock switch (2)

  • High gear switch (3)

Activate transmission hold control by pressing transmission hold switch (1). If the transmission hold control is activated, the transmission hold control will prevent the transmission from shifting. The transmission is held in the preselected gear when the transmission hold control is activated. In order to cancel the transmission hold control, press the transmission hold switch again.

Note: The transmission will automatically downshift when the engine lugs below 1000 rpm. The torque converter will automatically unlock when the engine lugs below 1300 rpm and the transmission is in first gear.

Activate neutral lock control by pressing the neutral lock switch (2). If the neutral lock control is activated, the neutral lock control will allow the transmission control to be moved out of the NEUTRAL position.

When the transmission control is in the NEUTRAL position, the neutral lock prevents the transmission control from being accidentally moved into a gear position.

Disengage neutral lock control by pressing the neutral lock switch (2) and move the transmission control forward in order to select the following gear positions:-

  • DRIVE (D)

  • THIRD GEAR (3)

  • SECOND GEAR (2)

  • FIRST GEAR (1)

If FIRST GEAR position, SECOND GEAR position or THIRD GEAR position are selected, the transmission will not upshift higher than the selected gear. If DRIVE position is selected, the transmission will automatically shift between gears according to conditions.

Press the neutral lock switch (2) and pull the transmission control backward in order to select REVERSE position (R). Selecting REVERSE position engages the first reverse gear. Transmission hold control is automatically activated. This prevents a shift into the second reverse gear. Disengage the transmission hold control by pressing the transmission hold switch (1). This allows the second reverse gear to be selected. The transmission will automatically shift between the two reverse gears according to conditions.

Activate high gear range by pressing the high gear switch (3). This permits the fourth gear or the fifth gear to be selected. The engine must be running and the transmission control must be in the DRIVE position (D) in order to select high gears. The actual gear indicator display will alternate between "4" and "5" when the high gear switch is pressed. This will happen after a five second delay. Each number will flash for about two seconds. Release the high gear switch when the required gear is displayed. If the fourth gear is selected, this will automatically cancel the fifth gear engagement. The actual gear indicator will confirm the selected gear by displaying the selected gear for four seconds.

Note: The high gear selection is lost when the engine start switch is turned off.
