Make sure that all of the warning signs are legible. Clean the warning signs or replace the warning signs if you cannot read the words. Replace the illustrations if the illustrations are not visible. When you clean the warning signs, use a cloth, water, and soap. Do not use solvent, gasoline, or other harsh chemicals to clean the warning signs. Solvents, gasoline, or harsh chemicals could loosen the adhesive that secures the warning sign. Loose adhesive will allow the warning sign to fall.
Replace any warning sign that is damaged or missing. If a warning sign is attached to a part of the machine that is replaced, install a warning sign on the replacement part. Any CLAAS dealer can provide new warning signs.
Do Not Operate
Illustration 1 | g00408354 |
The warning sign is located in the operator's compartment on the door.
Do not operate or work on this machine unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manual. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility. |
Jump Start Cables
Illustration 2 | g00473060 |
There are two warning signs. One warning sign is located in the battery compartment. The other warning sign is located on the left, front frame rail.
Improper jumper cable connections can cause explosion resulting in personal injury. Batteries may be located in separate compartments. When using jumper cables, always connect positive (+) cable to positive (+) terminal of battery connected to starter solenoid and negative (−) cable from external source to starter negative (−) terminal (if machine not equipped with starter negative terminal, connect to engine block.) Follow procedure in the operation manual. |
Electrical Shock Hazard
Illustration 3 | g00408356 |
The warning sign is located on the engine.
Electrical shock hazard. Unit injector system 90-120 volts. |
Belt Tension
Illustration 4 | g00408357 |
The warning sign is located on each belt tension cylinder.
Spring force can cause personal injury or death. Do not repair until you have read the Operation and Maintenance Manual. |
Ground Speed Sensor
Illustration 5 | g00408358 |
The warning sign is located below the ground speed sensor (if equipped).
Microwave radiation may cause eye damage. To avoid injury to eyes, do not look directly into the face of the ground speed sensor. |
Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS)
Illustration 6 | g00473063 |
The warning sign is located under the cab roof above the door.
Structural damage, an overturn, modification, alteration, or improper repair can impair this structure's protection capability thereby voiding this certification. Do not weld on or drill holes in the structure. Consult a Caterpillar dealer to determine this structure's limitations without voiding its certification. |
Three-Point Hitch
Illustration 7 | g00408361 |
The warning sign is located in the operator's compartment on the door.
Unexpected hitch movement during implement coupling or uncoupling can occur. To prevent personal injury the hitch control must be set in the manual mode while coupling or uncoupling implements. Consult the Operation and Maintenance Manual for complete three-point hitch operating instructions. |
Improperly Coupled Implements
Illustration 8 | g00408360 |
The warning sign is located on the quick hitch (if equipped).
Personal injury could result from improperly coupled implements. Be certain latches are fully engaged on both sides before transporting or pulling the implement. |
Power Take-Off
Illustration 9 | g00408362 |
The warning sign is located above the shield for the power take-off.
To avoid personal injury due to entanglement with rotating shaft, keep PTO master cover and all power drive system covers in place. Install PTO shaft guard when the system is not in use. |
Brake Accumulator
Illustration 10 | g00408363 |
The warning sign is located on the left side of the frame.
Relieve accumulator pressure before removing or attaching any service tooling. |
Accumulator
Illustration 11 | g00463542 |
The warning sign is located on the accumulator on the undercarriages. The warning sign is also located on the right frame rail.
Hydraulic accumulator contains gas and oil under high pressure. Improper removal or repair procedures could cause severe injury. To remove or repair, instructions in the service manual must be followed. Special equipment is required for testing and charging. |
Exhaust
Illustration 12 | g00463544 |
The warning sign is located on the right front fender.
Avoid contact with hot surfaces. Exhaust piping and engine components become hot during engine operation and cool slowly after engine shutdown. Any contact with hot surfaces can cause severe burns. |
Passenger
Illustration 13 | g00463545 |
The warning sign is located on the inside of the cab door.
Do not allow passengers on the machine. Severe injury or death could result from a fall or from contact with moving components or machinery. Riding on this machine is only allowed if a passenger seat is provided and if the driver's view is not obstructed. An accident and resulting injury or death could occur if the driver's view or access to controls is obstructed by a passenger. |
Jump Start Cables
Illustration 14 | g00463546 |
The warning sign is located on the left side of the engine compartment on the starter.
Start engine from operator's seat only. Personal injury could result from inadvertent machine operation if safety start switch or starter solenoid is bypassed. When using jump start cables, always connect positive + cable to positive + jump start post and negative - cable to negative - jump start post. Improper jump start cable connections can cause an explosion, resulting in personal injury. |
PTO
Illustration 15 | g00463575 |
The warning signs are located at the rear of the machine near the PTO.
Entanglement with rotating machinery can cause injury or death. To avoid entanglement, do not approach or work on the PTO shaft or equipment with the PTO in operation. Shut off the engine and allow the PTO to come to a stop before working on the PTO or equipment. |
Fluid Penetration
Illustration 16 | g00551973 |
The warning sign is located above the quick couplers at the rear of the machine.
Fluid escaping under pressure, even a pinhole sized leak, can penetrate body tissue, causing serious injury, and posibble death. Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated by a doctor familiar with this type of injury immediately. |
Gas Struts
Illustration 17 | g00463572 |
The warning sign is located on the left side of the engine compartment on the air inlet tube.
Weak or inoperative hood lift-assist struts could cause the hood to lower unexpectedly, possibly causing personal injury. To prevent unexpected hood lowering, always engage the hood support latch as soon as the hood is in the full-raised position. |
Maintenance
Illustration 18 | g00463571 |
The warning sign is located in the cab on the left cab post. Also, the warning sign is located on the left side of the engine compartment.
Shut off engine and remove key before performing maintenance or repair work. Failure to do so may result in personal injury due to inadvertant machine operation. Do not start the engine or move any of the controls if there is a "Do Not Operate" or similar warning tag attached to the start switch or controls. |
Operator's Manual
Illustration 19 | g00463569 |
The warning is located in the cab on the left cab post.
Read and understand the operator and safety instructions in the operator's manual and on the machine. Locate and understand the control operations. Failure to follow safety and operational instructions can result in serious operator or bystander injury. This machine will turn if the steering wheel is moved when the engine is running, even if the parking brake is engaged. To avoid personal injury due to unexpected machine movement, make sure the surrounding area is free of personnel before starting or operating the machine. Be prepared to apply the service brakes in order to counteract any steering that might occur unintentionally. |
