Start By:

  1. Remove the gear pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Gear Pump (Brake Release and Oil Cooling) - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Before disassembly, thoroughly clean the outside of the gear pump.

  2. Remove bolts (1) and the washers. Separate gear pump (2) from gear pump (3). The weight of gear pump (2) is approximately 39 kg (86 lb). The weight of gear pump (3) is 40 kg (88 lb).

  3. Remove O-ring seals (4) and O-ring seal (5) from gear pump (2).

  4. Mark bolts (6) for installation purposes. Remove bolts (6) and the washers.

  5. Remove pump cover (7).

  6. If necessary, remove dowels (8) from pump cover (7).

  7. Position pump cover (7) on suitable blocks. Use Tooling (A) to remove bearings (9) from pump cover (7).

  8. If necessary, remove dowels (10) from pump cover (7).

  9. Remove O-ring seal (11) from pump body (12). Remove spacer (15), pump body (12), drive gear (13), and idler gear (14) as a unit from pump body (16).

  10. Remove O-ring seal (17) from spacer (15). Remove woodruff key (18) from drive gear (13). Remove drive gear (13) and idler gear (14) from pump body (12).

  11. Remove spacer (15) from pump body (12).

  12. If necessary, remove dowels (19) from spacer (15).

  13. Remove O-ring seal (21) from pump body (12). Remove bolts (20), and the washers that hold flanges (22), pump cover (23), and seal (24) to pump body (12).

  14. Remove O-ring seal (25) from pump body (12). Use Tooling (A) to remove bearings (26) from pump body (12).

    Note: Idler gear (27) and drive gear (28) are identical. Identify the location of each gear for installation purposes.

  15. Remove idler gear (27) and drive gear (28) from pump body (16).

  16. Use Tooling (A) to remove bearings (29) from pump body (16).

  17. Position gear pump (3) on suitable blocking. Remove bolts (30) and the washers.

    Note: Bolts (31) contain thin washers (33) and thick washer (34).

  18. Position gear pump (3). Remove bolts (31), washers (33), and washers (34). Remove pump cover (32).

  19. Remove O-ring seal (35) and bearings (36) from pump cover (32).

  20. Use Tooling (A) to remove lip seal (37) from pump cover (32).

  21. Remove drive gear (38) and idler gear (39) from pump body (40).

  22. Remove woodruff key (41) from gear shaft (42). Remove pump body (40).

  23. Use Tooling (A) to remove bearings (43) from pump body (40). If necessary, remove dowels (44).

  24. Turn over pump body (40). If necessary, remove dowels (45).

  25. Remove O-ring seal (47), drive gear (46), and idler gear (45) from pump body (48).

  26. Remove pump body (48) from adapter assembly (49).

  27. Remove O-ring seal (52) from pump body (48). If necessary, remove bolt dampers (50). Use Tooling (A) to remove bearings (51) from pump body (48).

  28. Remove coupler assembly (54) from adapter assembly (49). If necessary, remove dowels (53).

  29. Use Tooling (B) to remove retaining ring (55) from coupler assembly (54).
