Air Dryer - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

------ WARNING! ------

In order to prevent possible personal injury, release the air pressure from the air tank before disconnecting any components of the air system.

    Note: Refer to the Parts Manual for the repair kits that are available.

  1. Release the pressure in the air tank.

    Note: Identify hose assemblies (2), (4), (7), and (12) for the correct installation procedure.

  1. Disconnect hose assemblies (2), (4), (7), and (12) from air dryer (1). All the openings should be plugged.

  1. If necessary, remove O-ring seals (3), (5), (8), and (13) .

  1. If necessary, remove tee (9) and O-ring seal (10) .

  1. If necessary, remove fitting assembly (14) .

  1. Reposition the rubber boot. Remove nut (16) and the washer. Disconnect the wire harness.

  1. Remove four bolts (11), the four washers, and two straps (6). Remove air dryer (1) .

Note: Refer to Service Manual for the disassembly procedure and for the assembly procedure.

Installation Procedure

Note: Inspect the O-ring seals. Replace any O-ring seals that are worn or damaged.

Note: Before installation, apply 1U-6396 O-Ring Assembly Compound to the O-ring seals.

Note: Before installation, apply 5P-3413 Pipe Sealant to the external tapered threads.

  1. Install air dryer (1). Install two straps (6), the four washers, and four bolts (11) .

  1. Connect the wire harness. Install the washer and nut (16). Correctly position the rubber boot.

    Note: When the wire harness is installed, tighten the wire harness to a torque of 2.8 ± 0.6 N·m (2.06 ± 0.44 lb ft).

  1. Install fitting assembly (14) .

  1. Install O-ring seal (10) and tee (9) .

  1. Install O-ring seals (3), (5), (8), and (13) .

  1. Remove the plugs from the openings. Connect hose assemblies (2), (4), (7), and (12) to air dryer (1) .

    Note: If relief valve (15) was removed, install the relief valve. The relief valve should face downward.

End By: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Starting with an External Air Supply" in order to refill the air tank.
