PROBLEM
The harness connection to the transmission output speed sensors 1 and 2 need to be inspected and possibly reworked on certain 793F, 793F XQ, 793F CMD, 797A, 797B, 797F, 797F XQ off-highway trucks. The existing harness connectors may be wired backwards from the factory. 797 and 797B Trucks: These trucks do not use the new software, inspect per instructions. On F-Series Trucks Only: If the truck has Power Train Software Gp 464-8205 or later installed (see Service Magazine Article SEPD1841), and there are CID 585-7 and CID 673-7 Level 1 Diagnostics, refer to the rework procedure in this letter to correct the diagnostic code. If the truck has Power Train Software Gp 464-8205 or later installed (see Service Magazine Article SEPD1841), and there are NO CID 585-7 and CID 673-7 Level 1 Diagnostics, the Transmission Output Speed Sensors are connected correctly. No rework or inspection is required. If the truck has a Power Train Software Gp version previous to 464-8205 installed(see Service Magazine Article SEPD1841), the following procedure can be followed to inspect the connections and correct the fault if necessary. |

PARTS DISPOSITION
Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling. |
1. Prepare machine for maintenance. Refer to the machine's Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Prepare the Machine for Maintenance". 2. Ensure that the oil in the rear axle housing is not overfull and at the correct level. Adjust oil level if necessary. Refer to the machine's Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil Level - Check". 3. On 797 models only disconnect the transmission output speed sensor harness on the differential access cover. Refer to Image 1.1.1. |

5. Inspect the harness connections to the transmission output speed sensors. -797, 797B, and 797F Transmission output speed sensor #1 (bottom sensor) should be connected to the harness breakout that includes wires E901-GN and E900-WH. Transmission output speed sensor #2 (upper sensor) should be connected to the harness breakout that includes wires E907-GY and E906-OR. See Image 1.3.1 for 797 example. -793F Transmission output speed sensor #1 (bottom sensor) should be connected to the harness breakout that includes wires E900-YL and E901-GN. Transmission output speed sensor #2 (upper sensor should be connected to the harness breakout that includes wires E906-OR and E907-GY. See Image 1.3.2 for 793 example. |
