Installation of the frame reinforcement group will make the rear frame stronger on these machines so an A.E.M. (Auxiliary Equipment Manufacturer) ripper can be installed on them. The reinforcement plates must be made from high strength structural carbon steel. The machine must be equipped with an attachment hydraulic fourth valve before the ripper can be operated. See Special Instruction Form SMHS8212 "INSTALLATION OF ATTACHMENT HYDRAULIC FOURTH VALVE". See the instruction that follows for the procedure to make the reinforcement plates and to install them on the machine.

---|
Use only E7018 Welding electrodes or similar to install the parts of this reinforcement group. Since the rear lifting eyes must be removed and again installed after the reinforcement group is installed, the welder must have the ability to meet AWS B3.0-40 specifications. |
1 Cut two pieces (1) of 30.0 (1.18") thick and 90.0 (3.54") wide steel to 1455.0 (57.28") in length. Bend each plate down to the dimensions shown to make a 100.0 R (3.94" R) at locations (A) and (B). Cut two pieces (2) of 25.0 (1.00") thick and 90.0 (3.54") wide steel to 350.0 (13.78") in length. Bend each piece to the dimensions shown. Make an 18.0 (.71") x 45° chamfer (C) along one side of each piece as shown.
2 Cut two pieces (3) of 25.0 X 90.0 (1.0" x 3.54") steel to the dimensions shown. Make 18.0 (.71") x 45° chamfer (D) along one side of each plate.
3 Make two plates (4) from 16.0 (.62") thick steel to the dimensions shown. Make opening (E) in each plate at the dimension shown. Make a 10.0 R (.38" R) along each end of opening (E). Make a 6.0 (.25") x 45° chamfer along each side of plates (4) at end (F).
4 Remove the hood side doors and panels. Use an Arcair torch or similar tool to remove lifting eyes (5) from each side of the rear frame. Tack weld plates (2) and (3) to each side of the rear frame rails at the dimensions shown. Make 18.0 (.71") bevel groove welds along the top of plates (2) and (3). As an optional procedure, 3.0 (.12") fillet welds can be made around the bottom of the plates. Tack weld plate (4) to the frame rail as shown. Make a 6.0 (.25") bevel groove weld along end (F) of plate (4). Make a 10.0 (.38") plug weld in opening (E). Make an 8.0 (.31") fillet weld along section (X). Do not weld along the front of plate (4) to the dimension shown. Make a 10.0 (.38") fillet weld along the bottom of plate (4). Tack weld plate (1) to the top of plate (4). Make an 8.0 (.31") fillet weld along each side of plate (4). Do not weld along the front 25.0 (1.0") of plate (1). Make a 10.0 (.38") bevel groove weld along rear end (Y) of plate (1). Use the same procedure to install the reinforcement plates on the other side of the machine.
5 Grind all the former welds from eye (5). Tack weld eye (5) in position over opening (E) at the location shown. Make a 10.0 (.38") fillet weld with 1.5 (.06") penetration all around eye (5). Tack weld 6K2198 Boss (6) to the left side at approximately the location shown. This boss will be used to hold the hydraulic tubes. Put the engine side guards in position and use plates (1) as a guide and put marks on the side guards. Use a cutting torch to make modifications as needed to the side guards. Again install the engine side guards. Put paint on all the new welds and the reinforcement plates.
6 Install the ripper on the machine as shown in the A.E.M. instructions. Install the hydraulic control valve and hoses to operate the ripper. See Special Instruction Form SMHS8212 for the correct installation procedure of the hydraulic control.
