Usage:
The 5N8691 Flywheel Housing Gasket (flywheel housing-to-cylinder block) is the replacement gasket for the 8N9575 Flywheel Housing Gasket which is now cancelled. The 8N9575 Flywheel Housing Gasket was formerly used on D342 Engines 17S1-17S20233. The 8N9575 Gasket was also used on some older model non-current engines. It is possible that one of the procedures that follow will be needed to make a repair for the earlier engine.
The procedure to be used for installation of a 5N8691 Flywheel Housing Gasket on the above engines, will be according to the engine serial number, and the reason for the gasket change. See the installation procedures that follow.

Flywheel Housing Gasket Does Not Leak
(1) If there are no oil leaks in the area of the flywheel housing gasket, but there is a need for replacement of the gasket, use the 5N8691 Gasket as the replacement gasket.
(2) Cut out (remove) material as necessary at location (A) of the 5N8691 Gasket.
(3) Install the gasket and the flywheel housing; see the Service Manual for procedure.
Replacement of a Flywheel Housing Gasket When There Has Been Leakage At the Rear Bore For the Camshaft
(1) Remove the flywheel housing; see the Service Manual.
(2) Remove the original gasket from location (A), all the way around the gasket area. Make sure that all paint, dirt and/or grease are removed from area (B) around the rear bore for the camshaft.
(3) Put a good layer of 3S6252 RTV Silicone Adhesive/Sealant on the milled surface at area (C) (rear of cylinder block). Install a new 5N8691 Flywheel Housing Gasket, then install the flywheel housing. See the Service Manual for procedure.
NOTE: Do not cut or trim the gasket in the area of the camshaft bore.
