Frame Reinforcement Increases Life In Heavy Duty Applications {7051}

Usage:

Challenger 65C (2ZJ),
Challenger 70C (2YL),
Challenger 75C (4KK),
Challenger 85C (9TK) Agricultural Tractors

Description of Change: The frame to midbeam welded joint was strengthened to better distribute loading. The improved design will extend life in heavy duty applications.

Adaptable To: The improved design was effective with Challenger 65C (2ZJ628), Challenger 75C (4KK729), Challenger 85C (9TK345), and Challenger C70C (2YL261) Agricultural Tractors.

A retrofittable (alternate) design is available for Challenger 65C (2ZJ500-627), Challenger 70C (2YL1-261), Challenger 75C (4KK500-728), and Challenger 85C (9TK1-345) Agricultural Tractors. The procedure below outlines how to fabricate the required parts and installation instructions.

Installation Location(s)

(AH) Existing Midbeam Mounting Plate
(AJ) Fabricated Plate (inside and outside of frame)
(AK) Fabricated Plate (outside of frame only)

Installation Procedure

1. Clean paint, rust, and any burrs off of the mounting surfaces before installing plates. Note: Filter base bolts will have to be removed inside the RH frame rail to gain access to this area.

2. Clamp plates in place, making sure they sit flat on the frame surface. Align the top of the plates (as oriented in Illustration 3) to be even with the top of existing plate, as shown.

3. Weld 8 mm fillets (same weld size as existing weld at Location D). Weld around all plates with minimal starts and stops. The plates should be welded wherever they contact another plate on the frame.

4. Repeat the process four times for the rear plate (AJ) and two times for the front plate (AK).

5. Use 4C-4198 Touch Up Paint, as required.
