Description of Change: A new signal generator, which provides a signal to the tachometer with improved reliability is now available. An improved drive adapter assembly for mounting the signal generator is also available. The new signal generator has internal improvements for improved reliability. The improved drive adapter assembly has its parts number stamped into the aluminum mounting flange. The former version has its part number ink stamped on the flange. The former version also used a snap ring to retain the shaft assembly in the adapter housing. The snap ring was located on the shaft end that drives the signal generator.
Adaptable To: The new 164-5524 Signal Generator is a direct replacement for the former 3E-7299, 9X-8167, and 7T-6945 Signal Generators. The improved 1W-2316-06 Drive Adapter Assembly is a direct replacement for former 1W-2316-01-05 Drive Adapter Assembly versions. Part change levels may not be indicated on the part to reflect the latest version. Manufacturing effectivities of the new signal generator on certain Articulated Truck models are listed in the chart.
Note that installation torque of the 164-5524 Signal Generator onto the 1W-2316-06 Drive Adapter Assembly is 22.6 N·m (16.6 lb ft) maximum.
