Service Magazine SEPD0422, Article 6, Page 6, June 22, 1998; "Longer Cap Screws With Spacers Used In Flywheel Housing Groups".
There is an incorrect Part Number in the first sentence of the Note in the "Adaptable To" section of this article. The correct first sentence of the Note Follows:
NOTE: For D9R Tractors with differential steering, install three new OS-1590 Cap Screws and three new 1W-3189 Spacers (Y) on the side opposite the differential steering ONLY.
--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------
Description of Change: Longer cap screws with spacers are used at the six locations marked with a (Y) in the illustration. These cap screws help fasten the flywheel housing to the cylinder block. The longer cap screws and spacers will provide increased resistance to loosening and will help maintain gasket crush. This will help prevent oil leaks in this area.
Locations of the six new 0S-1590 Cap Screws and six new 1W-3189 Spacers (Y) in the flywheel housing groups. Identification of bolts for tightening sequence.
Adaptable To: Six new 0S-1590 Cap Screws and six new 1W-3189 Spacers replace six 0S-1588 Cap Screws and six 5M-2894 Washers in the flywheel housing groups on the engines in these machines. The locations of the six new cap screws and spacers are identified by (Y) in the illustration. The new cap screws and spacers are effective as listed in the subtitle and are adaptable to all earlier machines. A 113-1474 Gasket should be used with the new cap screws and spacers. See the Tightening Procedure that follows.
NOTE: For D9R Tractors with differential steering, install three new 0S-1352 Cap Screws and three new 1W-3189 Spacers (Y) on the side opposite the differential steering ONLY. DO NOT install the new cap screws and spacers on the side with the differential steering, tighten the three existing cap screws only to the proper torque.
Tightening Procedure
1. Before assembly make sure the contact surfaces between the flywheel housing and cylinder block and the surfaces of the flywheel housing gasket are clean and free of any foreign material.
2. Apply 9S-3263 Thread Lock Compound to the threads of the six new 0S-1590 Cap Screws.
3. Tighten bolts 1 through 21 in numerical sequence to a torque of 40 ± 10 N·m (30 ± 7 lb ft).
4. Tighten bolts 1 through 8 in numerical sequence to a torque of 135 ± 20 N·m (100 ± 15 lb ft).
5. Tighten bolts 9 through 21 in numerical sequence to a torque of 55 ± 10 N·m (40 ± 7 lb ft).
